About time they really put some effort in to killing legacy devices, I hate em....they are so old fashioned in today's world of USB 2 sockets, Firewire 800, multiple GHz Processors, Gigabit Networking, etc.

The layout looks a bit more logical but I do have concerns regarding the location of the graphics card slot considering the new location of the processor. Looking at AnandTech's image of air flow it would seem that the hot air off the processor is going to slam right into the graphics card which isn't ideal although I guess it could be resolved with a little further development.

I would really like to see some form of cooling other than fans since you can't really achieve both a cool system and quiet one very easily by using fans. Its then noise from other parts that cause problems such as HDs which on my old WC system used to make their presence known all too often, making a system truly quiet requires action from a number of manufacturers of different components.

Sounds like a positive move, on the whole :) Xavier briefly touched upon the BTX design in his Day One IDF round-up, together with some piccies.

Kind Regards

the pcix-16 is well away from the cpu.

cpu is in top corner, pci-x is just above the diagonally opposite corner, at the top of the pcix-1 slots.

the new *thermal units* concept sounds interesting though.

the btx has been designed with efficient airflow in mind so it should help cooling.

Bag of dog cocks,

I am away to shell out for a Lian Li PC71 full tower in black alu (to match the rest of my black hardware), and they now decide to fuck it all up with a new standard?! Grrr...

I presume ATX mobos will still be around for a good while yet, as it took AT mobos/cases a good while to die off completely. Still, i can always take a jigsaw to the back of the case and make it fit
