Anyone else have a problem whereby you drop connection and the Speedtouch diagnostic program sits there saying the ADSL is initialising.

To clear this i have to switch of the comp unplug the USB and restart. Then plug it in when comp has returned to desktop.

I'm not using BT, but I do have one of those modems.

I get that problem every now and again, stopping the device and replugging it clears it up for me (running Win2k, so I can stop devices). I think its a pretty common driver issue.

Should be able to, XP is just a newer version of 2k really...

In win2k in the system tray theres an icon with a card and a green arrow above it. The tooltip is 'Unplug or Eject Hardware'.

Double click that, select the 'Alcatel Speed Touch USB ADSL PPP' or similar and hit stop.

Now replug the modem and run the Speed Touch USB Diagnostics again from the Start menu, it should then sync up again

Saves a reboot and yes it pisses me off :)

I am pretty sure that it is caused by windows stopping the power to the modem, I think you might be able to solve it by going into the device manager, go into network adapters, then into the properties for the speedtouch modem.
There should be a tab saying Power Management, go into it and unselect the option "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power"
