They have really done it now....

Not only do they cut me off for 2 days but now I get back on, their ADSL is slower than my old 56k - and thats when it actually does load the requested page.


I urge anyone considering ADSL to steer well clear of BT.

I think we can easily blame BT, they sat on these technologies for years. They first tested ADSL 10 years ago for instance. They sat on it because they were raking in the cash from the 0845 numbers ppl had to use.

Yet, they couldn't sell it due to the monopolies commmission or something.
m8, if they were allowed to release what they have right now, we'd prolly all be on 4-5MB Conns...but only BT could sell it, meaning they could charge what they want.

This is true, BT have been "trialing" ADSL since 1996. Probably even earlier. It's kind of pathetic really. Why didnt they just come straight in with a newer xDSL technology. Oh well, once Telewest upgrade my network to digital I'll be saying cya, wouldnt wanna be ya to my DSL. Download speed's are rock solid 60kB/s for me, but the USB and 20ms on first hop is the downside.. rah

To tell the truth, im happy with it

Yes pings are higher than cable (although to tell the truth most cable pings ive seen lately have often been higher, but i know that ntl, etc, have had probs)

Anyway when we get down to milliseconds, there really isny much between say 20 - 30, 30 - 40, 40 - 50, etc.

I'd say my average ping is between 30 and 40, with the normal fluctuations that you get.

No my ping is great - I play with 20 - 40 ping on most uk servers.

Its just that I got cut off for 2 days solid and then it wouldnt load web pages fully when I got back on.

Say a page had 4 frames - at least 2 wouldnt load. Neither would pictures.

All is well at the moment and Im back to an awesomely fast service.

but when will it go down next....?

BT get my £40 a month without fail - I expect a high bandwidth/high quality net connection everyday without fail.

Is that too much to ask?

I'm with clara.net and i havn't had any probs at all so far. The only prob i do have is my p200 server dieing on me

Oh, can anyone confirm this. Last i heard was that it costs bt a quarter of a million to equip an exchange so that it has adsl.

Just thought that this might cause the sky high prices

who cares, cable costs peanuts. for the same £40 a month paid for DSL I get cablemodem, digital cable tv + music package (mtv etc) and 2 phonelines

Plus I get higher download speeds (100k average, not burst) and have been graced with a 10ms ping before in various games

Aye shabzz. I am moving in two weeks and want cable cos it's a shared student house (not that I'm a student...my girlfriend who I'll be living with is). But cable ain't aaaaat around my area so I gotta get ADSL. Reluctantly. I'd much rather share 20 quid a month as opposed to 50+ quid and THEN pay for phone line rental on top of that!
BT are a joke, sort it out BT. If someone else can offer a similar service for less than half the price you do there's got to be something wrong somewhere.

Yup, it is a joke. What makes adsl worse is that you choose an isp, which is why there isnt a standard rate for it. Bt say that openworld is making a loss on it. Where as youve got zen, etc, who wanna charge 60 a month for it, which is just madness

Mines 50, so that makes me nearly committed, but not the whole 100% insane..

If only NTL, etc, could get a look in, in ol MK...
