via chipsets?

is that on motherboard or on the adsl modem itself?

my ABIT Kx7-333 works fine with the alcatel usb adsl modem. Just update your "Hyperion" (new name for 4in1s) drivers and you should be rocking. Or get a wires only installation and purchase your own choice of ADSL modem.

Ive got BTbroadband, and live in Scotland..

Only real annoying issue I've had is with the alcatel speedtouch (looks like a frog) modem that I got with it.

Its absolutely crap basically..

The USB implimentation on the VIA chipset is pretty poor and under certain circumstances (like 25 minutes have past :) ) the power to the modem dies and its reboot time.

Two ways I could have fixed it..

1. buy a new modem/router.

2. buy a PCI usb card.

I took the latter and it fixed the problem..

Apart from that, as long as you dont want technical support in a hurry they are ok.....

I guess ;)

Not quite correct as I have BT Broadband, am using Windows XP Professional and a VIA chipset based mb and I have absolutely no problems whatsoever unless my husband decides to start downloading more Mandrake Linux ;)

I would suspect it very much depends on which co-hosted server your Broadband connection is coming from. I live in Kent and don't have a problem at all.

EDIT: Typo

I just moved home and decided to give BT adsl a try after being an ntl cable customer , however BT customer service so far has totally sucked and they told me it would take up to 42 days to do the relevant line checks so i told them to stuff it. Ive ordered my cable which has taken 1 week for order to installation. Better the devil u know i say.
BTW i live in the NE of England

I started out with ADSL with BT, and changed as soon as possible.

The connection speeds (although OK were poor compared to other ISP's) BTO enforce some kind of web proxy that really ground my websurfing to a halt at peek times, the customer support team also do not seam to know what they are on about and just follow a script.

Moved to Nildram a few months ago... no more disconnects.. no more slow web brosing... DAOC pings/packet are constantly green now !! very very happy.

Also depends on which BT

Nxs you refer to BTO so I presume you mean BT Openworld's ADSL service?

That's, I believe and I'm sure it confirms it on the website you link to, that BT Openworld and BT Broadband are two completely different services.

I have BT Broadband and I have yet to suffer any problems with it other than ones involving routers down on parts of the network at other times (Yells at OpenTransit again).

As I said before, I think it very much depends on where you live and how many other people are using the same servers to connect through.
