I got BT Openworld ADSL

When it works, its fucking ace,

when it doesn't, its customer suport nightmare, eg:
no internet for 2 days

30 mins on hold while dialing BT

BT woman: Hi, how can I help
Me: HG17 is down, can you look into it please

BT: whats your name, adress, secret word, etc
Me: blla bla

BT: is your modem turned on?
Me: yes, everything is fine here, but your gateway is down

BT: Can you please make sure you are using the correct username and password
Me: Tripple checked: your gateway is down

BT: We're gonna do a line check, can you connect to the internet please
Me: I can't connect to the internet, gateway 17 is down

BT: ahhh, please read out the error message given
Me : *frustrated* "Unable to connect to gateway 17, the service is currently unavailable... please contact your ISP

BT: Ah, I'll have an engineer check

30 mins later it works

they breed monky's in that place

You could go PIPEX.com but their customer support goes like this:

ME: Oh hello, I've g...
PHONE: You are in a automated queue. Abandon all hope.

ME: <20 mins later hang up>

Or when I've emailed twice saying I cannot connect I have had no reply. As far as they know I cannot connect still!

ADSL can be excellent, but ive heard not so good reports from BT customers. I am with Nildram and have been delighted with it since I subscribed. Playing games like bf1942, my ping is usually the lowest on the server, at about 18-20. In otherwords, yeah adsl is good, depending on your service provider ;)

I've applied for Demon, and am currently waiting for them to get back to me to say yes or no.

I know (back in the old days of paying a monthly fee AND paying for the phone call) that Demon used to supply the BEST service out of any ISP i've ever used. (I only moved away from them due to prices). So, I saw the website, and their deal is pretty much the same as everywhere else, so I thought I would give them another try.

So far so good, although they reckon it'll be 15 to 20 working days to run all the tests and whatnots, and (thanks to christmas) it's only been 10 days so far... I should find out by the end of the month...

Anyone else know if Demon is still a decent company, or has it sold out to the corparate 'big boys'??

I'm using BT 'Home Highway' ISDN, since I can't get ASDL in my area.

It's amazing, my connection is great, and the packet loss is EXTREMELY small (0% - 0.00000001%).

I had a whole crapload of problems at the start though, because my phone line was faulty, but there was excellent customer service and an engineer was at my house for at least 2 hours everyday over the christmas period.

I think he might have been my first footer too.... :)

You need to make up your own mind... im on Nildram and loving it, only 2 LD's since ive been with them - compare to 2 LD's a day with BTO.

check www.dslguide.org.uk for information on ADSL providors and there users comments, a great site.

I can't recommend BT Openworld to anyone, when it works, it's fine. It's a 512k digital internet connection, like you would have hoped, but, when it goes wrong I've had so many problems with customer support.

I can recall 2-3 conversations with employees like Silverhood posted, I even recall spending 20-25 minutes being guided through all the checks I'd already done by an employee, only for him to go "aah, wait, I'll just check something" ... on hold for 5 minutes... "okay, well, billing have disabled you're account because of a failed payment..." doh.

I checked my account online, wondering what the hell was going on, as it was on an automatically billed every month credit card thingy.... it turned out that I had paid them, as I thought, at which point I called back, quoted the payment number, got an apology, and they told me that they would reactiveate my account as soon as possible. This was on a wednesday, it came back up on friday night.

Couple other annoying stories too, but...

Just after christmas I noticed that I was way out of my 12 month contract. I bought a freeserve plug and play kit from dixons and took that home. I emailed cancel@btopenworld.com, about 2 and a half weeks ago, and have emailed them numerous times since, I'd say about 4 times, with no response.... none of the emails bounced... whenever I call the support line, they say that they can't do anything without an email to cancel, or a written letter to BT by snailmail. There's one in the post right now, and I'm waiting for the response, as Freeserve can't activate my line for their service till BT get shot of me. :flame::flame::flame:
