I've been enquiring about getting ADSL and this is what it will cost me to get it now -

£135 - standing charge to BT for the remainder of my contract which ends in august
£99 (or £49 depending on the service) - for BT to convert ISDN to POTS
£150 - to convert POTS to ADSL (this is BT's charge passed to the ISP)
total = £384 (or £334) PLUS V.A.T. = £451 (or £392)

This is a fucking joke. All this money is going directly to BT, nothing to the ISP. Well, I shall be keeping the ISDN line until the end of the contract because I am NOT about to give them a single penny that I don't need to. According to the BT flunkey "it's a considerable amount of work to convert ISDN to POTS", yeah sure pal, it's worth £99 of my cash for someone to swap the plug at the exchange isn't it?, a right fucking bargain.

CUNTS and no denial.

Bloody hell, that's awful!

If you can bear it, it's worth waiting until the end of your contract. I'm changing to ADSL, from Home Highway, on July 2nd, and I'm not paying anything (I pre-registered for ADSL).

I am getting it from BTOpenworld though which, reading between the lines, you're not.

After navigating all the hoops that BT have placed in front of us Home Highway users, I just hope it's worth the wait.

When you sign to ISDN and now ADSL/CM you have to agree to a 12 month contract. Its the only way they can make the money back on installation. I do agree that the conversion back to POTS sucks arse.

A quick Question - What are BT charging you then to go from HH to Openworld once your contract has expired :confused: (i intend to do the same in August) :clap:

It will be the same deal...£49 or £99 (depending on the package) to convert back to POTS and then £150 to convert to ADSL. I spoke to another BT flunkey today, it's their standard charge for converting ISDN to POTS.

Since I'm getting CM I'll just tell BT I no longer want the line etc.....if they try and charge me for taking away the ISDN box then i'll just tell them to leave it and I'll remove it myself, crow bar should do the job :)

RE having to sign a 12 month contract for a cable modem, well NTL may but blueyonder do not for their service. You pay a installation fee of 50 quid and 25 or 33 pounds a month depending on wether u have their cabel tv service as well. If youdecide to leave u simply have the modem collected, and have to pay the connect fee again if you decide to come back.

Thats why I was told it was a 12 month contract on the phone and its also on my Residential Services Contract.

T&C.

'You must be over 18 years old. The minimum period of the contract is 12 months after which etc etc etc'

BTW I'm getting blueyonder.
