I'm wondering if BT are trying to protect their ISDN market. The proposed home ADSL user ratio alone is a copout.

I've considered getting the Business Ethernet version. Although its more than twice as expensive, its still expected to be on time and have a more earthly user ratio.

Yeah they have been protecting their ISDN market for ages now

I've heard that the USB version is a lot better than people thought :E

Do you need anything special for ADSL such as a new modem that only does ADSL or what.

Hmm dont hold your breath usb may not be available until 2001 at the earliest

Will it be better than the ethernet version?
we are talking about bt so expect pings of 150/300ms onpeak 7pm/10pm weekdays regardless :)

bt will supply all the hardware, which will include a modem and splitter and send an engineer round to install, all you will have to do is plug it in and install the software, there should be no problem sharing the connection, you could always try demon ;)

I have to :D whenever I see this whole BT fiasco.

Here in Ireland, BT has just bought our second largest telco, Esat Telecom (first private co when deregulation introduced). BT/ESAT have spent the last few months dissing the old state monopoly, Eircom, for not unbundling local loop, and making wild claims about how they could introduce ADSL tomorrow if they got access to Eircom's switches etc They also have accused Eircom of delaying unbundling so that the can protect their virtual monopoly on leased lines and ISDN. Sound familiar?

Its amazing how hypocrtical these companies can be.

from what i can gather about the ADSL serice bein offered to home customers has lead me to sign up with BTOpenworld as my fears have been resolved :)

Theyve offered to buy out my remaining contract with Highway :) as long as i take out a 24 month contract with them :/, heh, what the hell - nothing ventured nothing gained ;)

I am registered with BTclosedworld as a Business user, and their claim that more information will be put on their website has proved to be a bit inaccurate.

I've decided to give up and get ISDN instead. Heck, Cable Modems have only just come out in some place and they were promised since 1982..

Some may be businesses-only, but the ones i think are offering it are BTI, demon, nildram, and freeserve (!)..

Since Bristol is where i go to Uni, thats just what i DIDN'T want to hear.. How are TeleWest doing i terms of pulling their fingers out and delivering..?
