Er, i'm starting to drive in a month or so, and was looking into doing an intensive course (1 week intensive driving lessons, the test on the last day) and was wondering if anyone here has any experience with these courses?
Are they good or bad? Worth the money?
Thx for replies in advance :)

Bad idea

Nothing beats experience, that kind of course won't give you time to reflect on your driving, and to watch others drive.

I agree with Tom - you can't beat having a good few weeks of driving under your belt.

I would agree, take your time. Your driving will be better for it.

You'll be learning too much too fast, trying to cram in all you need... You'll make more mistakes because it was a "rush job"...

I thought by the name of the thread you was gonna be talkin about Birmingham peeps.. :p

I had about 3 lessons, then went for an intensive course.
you're right, experiance is better, but heck i passed, and been trouble free for 8 years.
(alough on the day i passed my test, my workmates pitched in and got me a Merc rental for the weekend, i skillfully removed the passenger side wing mirror on a bridge......)

Good luck whatever way you choose tho..

I would still recommend going on a course though. It will give you the right structure for the way you drive.

But dont expect to be able to pass your driving test after doing a crash course....its not very likely.

But Brum can drive all by himself and catch robbers and stuff like that.

I thought it was gonna be all about that little yellow car that goes on all those excellent adventures :p

Remember your only as good a driver as your last crash :)

HEHE Thats what I thought this thread was going to be about..

Anyhoo, taking a crash driving course is a little like cramming for an exam with recent papers.. al you really want to do is be prepared for the test and do enought to pass.

Fine for a maths paper, put really enough preparation for driving on the roads and unfortunately, after passing your driving test you will be unleashed on the road with a tool for mass destruction and death, rather than an A Lvl.

Good luck whatever you do though.

Well, thx for the replies :)
I have been driving a motorbike for 8 months so I *think* i have a fairly good idea of the roads, and also been taken out with my dad and mates for the past 2 months so have a fairly decent knowledge of controlling the car. I don't know if this will make you lot change your mind about it, but the price is a bit steep anyway. :(

Riding a motorbike will give you much better road sense than a car. You get to see how crappy some drivers really are. However 8 months is still a short time and theres more to driving a car than meets the eye.

I'd say go for it.

With driving lessons some people dont get practice outside it and pass in 20-25 lessons so you'd have just as much road exp + bike exp.

Just these twats who have to catch the bus being arsy, or the cunts in cars not wanting more drivers :D

The urge to act like a complete fucking twat on the roads might be the hardest thing for you to overcome then.

May I suggest a Corsa SRi.

I've never ridden a motorbike in my life, or driven a Corsa SRi (or any other remotely riced up car).

You know I was trying to think of something a little more polite but the word ARSEHOLE just popped in there first

Stu's a complicated onion. Under that mean-spirited, arrogant, pompous exterior lies another layer of pomposity. Under that is two layers of smug and a thin layer of arrogance. Under that beats a cold, dark heart.

Of course in there is public parking.

Bikers are, on the whole, some of the safest people on the road.

Also some of the most stupid...

Infact at some stage or another, most bikers are both. I certainly am. Then again, so are most car drivers. No wait, thats just stupid, inconsiderate, oblivious, and downright dangerous.

And they still aren't as bad as moped riders.

M

mank!

Which is because moped riders are either 16 year old townies who think they're god's gift to earth because they own a moped or are decrepid old ladies with no eyesight.

The alternative is the "London scooter". The 40 year old commuter who is having his midlife crisis, and wants to work his way up to a bigger bike... but never gets any further than a 50cc deathtrap, and rides exactly like one.

A danger to everyone, but mostly themselves.

Worse still are the 12 year old brats who cruise up and down the footpaths on these little fucking scooters with half a lawnmower engine strapped to it.

Even worse are Renault Meganes. I've been stuck behind 4 today, all doing 5-10 mph less than the speed limit on twisty roads with no clear places to get past. Altho one was doing the speed limit on a dual carriageway, but still wouldn't get out my way.
