I think this really sums it all up.

After hearing that many cities did not want to offend other cultures
by putting up Xmas lights, so DIDN'T!

After hearing that the Birmingham council changed its opinion and let
a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's licence with her face
covered.

After hearing of a Primary School in Birmingham where a boy was told
that for PE they could wear Football League shirts (Aston Villa,
Birmingham, West Brom etc) but NOT an England shirt as it could offend
others !

This prompted the editorial below written by a UK citizen. Published
in a British tabloid newspaper.

IMMIGRANTS. NOT BRITONS, MUST ADAPT.

Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether
we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist
attacks on London , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the
majority of Brits.

However, the dust from the attacks has barely settled and the
'politically correct' crowd begin complaining about the possibility
that our patriotism is offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone
who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain . However, there are
a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and
apparently some born here, need to understand.

This idea of London being a multicultural centre for community has
served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As
Britons, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and
our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of
wars, struggles, trials and victories fought by the untold masses of
men and women who laid down their lives and one of the millions of men
and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese,
Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part
of our society, learn the language! 'In God We Trust' is our National
Motto.

This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted
this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles,
founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly
appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools.

If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the
world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If St.
George's cross offends you, or you don't like ' A Fair Go', then you
should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.

We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we
really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR
COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every
opportunity to enjoy all this.

But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our
Flag, Our Pledge, Our National Motto, or Our Way of Life, I highly
encourage you take advantage of one other great British freedom, 'THE
RIGHT TO LEAVE'.

If you aren't happy here then P*** OFF! We didn't force you to come
here.

You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted. Pretty easy
really, when you think about it. I figure if we all keep passing this
to our friends (and enemies) it will also, sooner or later get back to
the complainers, lets all try, please.

This story turns up every year but there is never any actual proof that councils are actually not putting up lights etc because of muslims.

Though I agree, they should either adapt or go home. The vast majority do adapt and live quite happily under our rules and law. Its just a vocal minority that have a problem.

Its much the same as the people crying racist, there is very little actual racism these days but plenty of people who like to shout about it.

What a load of rubbish. If people are going to make this shit up at least get some of the basic facts straight; Birmingham Council don't control driving licences, the DVLA do (and no, they won't let you have a picture with your face covered), we don't have a "national motto" and if we did, as a secular society I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be "in God we trust". I've never heard of any council not putting up Christmas lights, except for financial reasons. The story of the kid and the football shirts is apocryphal. Back it up with a credible news source or piss off.

Seriously, the country has enough problems with stalinist political parties, politically correct won't-somebody-please-think-of-the-children hysteria, and a nasty recession without horseshit like this.

Oh, and the whole speech is nicked from an Aussie newspaper and paraphrased (note the phrase, "a fair go"). And I'm surprised at you Laz.

Those against change should recognise that we no longer speak Middle-English. Sorry Laz, your rant is a load of bollocks.

There was the case of the guy in the RAF who was told to take his England flag down from his window because it was deemed offensive despite being on an RAF base.

Seems some people are so afraid of causing offence they over react.

Which is why I expressed surprise that you'd posted it. As it happens, there's a case for, "if you don't like the law of the land, fuck off", and it indeed, when the Aussie version of this was posted on this very site 18 months ago (I knew I'd seen it before), a lot of people expressed approval. What annoyed me was that in the version you posted someone had just cut and pasted a bunch of lies and bullshit that turned a reasonably valid argument into a hate piece. Maybe next time you shouldn't just post these things cold...

It didnt read light hearted at all. It read like an ignorant racist **** trying to stir shit up. If you intended it to be light hearted, either WRITE IT YOUR FUCKING SELF or say so.

No... The Australian one was made by an Australian politician talking about very specific Aussie values (for instance you sign an oath of allegiance when you emigrate there) and using real examples. Your post was a bunch of made up shit about councils in Birmingham. Don't you see the difference? Its very difficult to take the moral high ground when its based on blatant untruths.

frankly, I dont give a shit if it is Birmingham, manchester, glasgow or Australia.

The way this country is going at the moment, it COULD well be true and I am not wasting MY time verifying the voracity of all the statements on the internet.

take it how you want it - means nothing to me either way,

Whilom, as olde stories tellen us,
Ther was a duc that highte Theseus;
Of Atthenes he was lord and governour,
And in his tyme swich a conquerour
That gretter was ther noon under the sonne.
Ful many a riche contree hadde he wonne;

Totally. Although that's london talk, not what us povvers would be saying.
+ I'd think a few welshies would take exception to the rant telling then that everyone in Britain needs to speak english :)

Funny how they always manage to put 'Bed and Breakfast' in English though isn't it?

That's because they want our mystical shiny coins. The locals only pay in wool.
