as long as you have a GPS enabled phone or cycle computer.

Ride with GPS - Map Your Bike Rides - View Elevation Profiles - Analyze Performance - Train Better

A month ago I got back into cycling and even bought my first ever road bike. Browsing a cycling forum I discovered this site.

I have an app called MyTracks on the Hero that records GPS data during a ride and also shows stuff like average speed and altitude change etc. It also exports this data in a .gpx format which this site recognises. The results are similar to the images below of a ride I did Saturday:

As I said I've only been riding a few weeks and had no idea that the hill in the middle was as long as it turned out :).

On the site the info is much more interactive, and it even allows the export of an interactive map to embed in websites. It states that if a site allows youtube videos to be embedded then it usually works with this code, but it doesn't seem to work here. The code is below, does anyone know if there is a way to get it embedded?

These sites can be very useful, but even more useful is a heart monitor/watch device. That's the best way to measure your fitness.

Yup, the Garmin 500 that I've got my eye on is compatible with both a HRM and a cadence transmitter. The Hero isn't :), The uploaded info from the Garmin takes all that data too.

I have a Polar HRM that I wear for these rides, but it doesn't show minute by minute updtaes, just average and maximum.

TBH I don't turn on MyTracks for every ride either, my commute for instance I rarely bother as it's only 4.5 miles, but if I had a computer it would probably be on for very ride.
