Yes indeed. I was a Notts Forest supporter all the time I cba with football, before all the foreign players etc, and he was a great leader and a true (slightly mental) individual
In a sport that is devoid of personality these days, we are now losing possibly the greatest of them all.
If any arrogant little players told them they wouldn't play anywhere but their favourite position, he would punch them in the face and then swap them for a bottle of whiskey later that afternoon. It's an impossible task for his son Nigel to live up to what Brian acheived and I'm sure he'll be remembered as one of the all time great managers as long as football is still played.
May he rest in peace and all my condolences to the Clough family.
He was manager at Forest when I first started supporting them. I was not-very-old-at-all and in tears when we didn't win the FA Cup back in t'early nineties.
Really sad that he's gone, though I was sadly too young to have experienced his true glory days.
"I'm not saying Im the best manager in the world, but Im on a short list of one"
I was supporting Notts Forest during the late seventies/eighties, as I was born in Belper (near Derby, oddly enough) and my dad supports Derby, who Clough managed beforehand.
Showing me age i spose
I heard it on the news driving home from work, couldn't believe it and I had to think if anybody else achieved what Cloughie did - they didn't.
Sadly too young to remember him as a manager but I've always had huge respect for the man and it won't be the same without his column in FourFourTwo. As Jonaldo said, in a game losing real characters this is a huge loss to the world of football.
