Upgraded my machine by puttinh in another 512 of mem, made sure that it was same type I already had, etc. Had a few probs early on but got them sorted now my machine runs fine apart from when I try to run Dark Age. If the game lets me in, it only lets me in for around 10 seconds before booting me back to desk-top. Any one got any ideas please?

Dodgey ram. Maybe somthing to do with your graphics card but that is debatable. Re-install DAoC and then try.

All ram is not equal. Even though it may be the same clock speed and format as the stuff you had in originally, it may not be the same. Some motherboards are very fussy about memory timing and if your ram doesn't conform to that then it causes all kinds of problems. It's not even a case of getting expensive ram, most mobos should have a guaranteed compatibility list of ram sticks that will definitely work with that board. Check the manufacturers website for details.

hi there...

What the others said about memory is true, however - how does your machine react to other games? Have you tried running other DirectX9+ games to see what it does. It might be the fact that DX9 doesnt like your gfx card, or one of many other possibilities. Has this only started happening since you added the new ram? Have you tried swopping the 2 ramstick around on your MB - have you tried re-seating your ramsticks? have you done a bios upgrade lately? some motherboards need to have their BIOS's upgraded in order to work with larger quantities of memory (even tho it will boot and pick it up during ramcount).

Just some more things to think about

Hope you get it sorted

That idea about swapping the 2 memory sticks over to the other slots is well worth trying... I upgraded my ram a while ago and had constant crashes and BSoD's and someone suggested swapping them. I thought it was a silly idea (why would they make a pc have such a stupid design that it mattered which slot you put the ram in ffs???) but all of a sudden, no more crashes!

I don't think that the problem was because they were swapped out, but that one of the chips was misaligned..

So yeah, it's good to swap the chips as long as you make sure that they're placed perfectly int he slots.

it's also worth reseating eveything on the mobo including the processor just in case you jogged something when putting the memory in.
