Boring question about drivers for GF2Pro

Ok I've got the Herc GF2Pro and I've downloaded the latest driver from Hercules, but I'm wondering if the Detonator 3 driver from NVidia home will be better.


BTW - I could afford it but when I went near the Ultra in the shop, the price just kept scaring me away - so I ended up with a Pro instead - did I make the wisest choice?

i wouldent worry, i bought a straight geforce2 awhile ago and have been very happy and i dont really think anyone can justify a ultra with NV20 just arround the corner.

on the driver front, id go with the nivid beta drivers, they can be found at

just stick to ver 6.50 or less (7.xx all stink so dont touch them), also if you are a win2k user, 6.49 worked out quiet alot quicker for me.

rest assured you did the right thing. I saw a comparison somewhere (I think it was ixbt) that showed that in terms of fps for your £/$, the pro was far better value than the ultra. I also seem to remember that the pro had far more overclocking potential than the ultra, so that you could get up to near ultra speeds if required.

In terms of drivers, why dont you find a GF Pro review on the web and look at some benchmarks and compare them to your own. If you are getting there or thereabouts, then unless you have some compatibility problem or require some new feature, there is probably no reason to upgrade just yet. Too many people perform driver updates or BIOS upgrades to have the latest and greatest, without asking themselves why.
