Boredom?

Over the past week/weekend I've more and more realised I'm getting really bored of the game. The only reason I play anymore is for my guild as they're the best bunch I could ever hope to play a game with.

It just seems everything has now come to farming, PVE was always so but more and more RvR is just an exercise in farming your way to the next realm rank in 9 hour keep takes that mean nothing when a keep is just retaken at 5am by 1fg.

Anyone else getting that feeling? logging in standing in sauvage for 10 minutes then realising you have no desire to actually do anything and logging back off?

Logged in yesterday managed to be convinced to go to POC and join a guild group there only to get ganked by a fully buffed RR9 champion and bard friend as soon as I entered so logged off..fun fun fun...

Anyway enough whining from me :p what does everyone else think is there any hope for DAOC in it's current form? Will catacombs make any difference?

I often feel like that too Case.

The thing is, i don't think it will be any different with any other game, really. Eventually it comes to the point where the feeling of 'progress' slows down to a minimum, and all those visions you had while you built your character up come crashing down... i really don't think it would be different in any other game, and that's why i feel that if i give up DaoC, i'm giving up mmorpgs altogether rather than starting on something new. It will just end in the same way, and that - in my opinion - would be a big waste of time.

Catacombs will hopefully prolong that feeling of progress for a while. And heck, i'm still around muchly because i still want to try out the classes i haven't played, and it helps a lot that there are still lots of great people around. :)

Daoc has seen its best days and Catacombs just adds more broken stuff to already broken game (the way of Myhic has always "fixed" things :p)

Ok, I'm not going to say "come to WoW" or anything like that, but it really does sound to me like you've reached the point I was at last year. You've just played DAOC too long.
It's time to take a step back and look at your reasons for playing.
If it's just your guild, then that's not enough because those who are real friends you will stay in touch with by other means.
There comes a point where you've done everything that can be done, and everything else is just repetition. DAOC is still a good game in my opinion, but no matter how good the game or what expansions are brought out, when you've reached your fill it's time to move on.
Sure Catacombs may well bring new stuff for you, but you'll just be back in this position 2 months later.

I know how hard it is to actually walk away form something you've pretty much devoted all your spare time to for almost 3 years. I was at the point a year ago, but held on for another 6 months because I just couldn't walk away after all the time I'd invested in my characters. As a result I just became more bored, more frustrated, and generally anti-social in the game, when I should have just left. When I finally did, it was a great relief, and I don't regret it for a second.

Maybe time to look at enjoying real life for a while? :p

I had it like that a good while ago.

I stopped renewing subscriptions and took a brake, had a good time without DAoC, doing RL and other games (lots of MMORPGs with trial periods, if thats your thing)

Then I renewed DAoC subs, everything was easier and more relaxed, it started to tigthen up again after a while through, but then I suddenly got the last artis/scrolls I needed, wow, now the game is just so much more delightfull, just go RvR or level artis or help friends get their stuff done, much more enjoyable.. when you get yourself done with ToA (yes, I was slow)

I think the point is, Tiques, that's he's done all that already, many times.

Time for one long break and/or a new game then, to be honest :)

People may find this stupid but when you really get bored try doing some things that were done in the preToA days, even if you have nothing really good to gain but for the heck of it. Make Dartmoor runs for crappy glowies. Kill diamondback toads for the mighty Toadbane *raar :) * Head into Krondon and see how far you can get on your own. Run around SI/ToA to any areas you havent explored perhaps, just to see for yourself what's there. I think this game gets tiresome for many *including myself at some points* because there just isn't any mystery. If you want to learn about something you just check a website and find all the answers, like a walkthrough. There isn't any good old-fashion trial and error exploring. But then again I like hanging around dungeons like Sobekite Eternal just because they're cool :)

Yups Case I get that too at times. Then I log off and go do something else. I usually take a few days off, sometimes a week and when I return its fun again. I can highly recommend it. I suggest you try that before you cancel your subs and move on to other games.

if you have to think up excuses to play then obviously you dont like the game.

its either fun OR its not fun.

so what if you spent time on it, that was the past and you cannot change it. if you dont like it NOW then stop playing. makiung excuses to do play shows your addicted. its like people saying they will give up smoking, yet make an excuse to smoke, try to lose weight but make an excuse why they cant exercise.

this isnt work, at work you do what you have to do other wise you dont get paid. this is a game, you do what you want to do, if you dont want to do it then you dont have to.

Its difficult to just quit when you're GM of a large guild. Sure he could just stop playing for a month or so, but he'd be letting a lot of people down.

At the end of the day, if you put a lot of time and energy into making and running a guild, you don't want to just quit after 3 years.

As for the addiction thing, I dont' think its true - in the last 12 months Case and I have gone through a lot - both changed jobs, got married, enjoyed an active social life (i.e. go out at least 3 times a week), organised 2 guild meet-ups etc etc. You can fit in daoc as a non-casual player with an active social life, it just takes a bit of time management ;)
