Recent events (posts) have made me consider my final spec for my skald.... Thinking I'm more or less a taxi, and my job will be to keep my chants running and staying alive I'm thinking to spec like this....

Battleshout - 46 (highest melee DMG chant)
Hammer - 18 (Demolish to stun)
Parry - 43 (elite parrying)
RA - Mastery of parrying

Thinking I will have a hard time hitting things because of the low sword skill I wont spec to this before I'm playing in the big leagues. Right now I'm specced to sword, parry and bs but I would really really like to have that stun style hammer has.... I get 2 respecs right? one at lvl 20 and one at lvl 40 if i recall correct...

Anyways... Comments and suggestions would be grately appreciated

44 bs
45+ weapon
rest in parry

if you're a solo skald you MAY consider put bs to 46

You will have problems at later levels with only 18 in Hammer regardless of the items and rr you eventually acquire, as you'll do less damage as well as missing out on some very important style moves later on. And short duration stuns are practically over in a second so it's pointless relying on them to win you a fight.

But if it's stun you're after then go level 39 Axe, that way you get the Midnight Sun style which has a medium duration stun albeit after you successfully land Valkyrie's Shield (lvl21) from parrying an opponant first of course. How about BS 44, Axe 39, Parry 29 for a spec? You'll get Axe to 50 and Parry over 40 with items and rr.

Remember you can allways get 11+ from items and Easy 3+ from RR, to Skills.
I think im going for:
  • 37 sword (Bad 39 style)
  • 46 BS
  • 29 parry
or
  • 39 hammer (Gr8 39 style)
  • 46 BS
  • 26 parry
Kathal 50 Taxi
Aicon 32 Hunter and 1035 Fletcher

Aye dont be fooled into thinking a skalds a non melee class m8, mincers and bards may stand round with their fag drums and stuff just to keep their chants going but you can tank and chant so tis better 2 serve the grp by chanting and twatting peeps with that big hammer of yours :)

I have 40axe 46bs 25parry, which leaves you with 0 spec points. I like this spec, but i havent tried anything else out, so i cant say if its teh pwn spec. But i can tell you that i find it to my liking.

50axe, 43bs, 2parry

parry is a waste of points for skald, we aren't defensive, you want to parry and block then roll a warrior for an extra 500hp then at least you can protect casters

sure you can raise weapon skill with items and rr bonus but damage you get from 50 specced weapon is well worth it, i capped about 692 with tyr's, with chant and shouts i can match pretty much any class for damage

duelled a lot on gorre testing respec, only class i had consistant problems with was warden and that was only because i didn't have a 1h axe to equip

you want to stay alive in rvr forget parry, try to max hp and magic resists, i have 1504hp unbuffed, with ip, fa2 and avoid pain i'm alive long enough to do my job, kill bards and casters

Update please :)

Due to the fact that crush damage have been nerfed I wanted to ask you bright guys  if this still would be a viable (if not kickarse) spec

Hammer 39 - for great parry style and reasonable damage (I would think)

Parry 29 - Will get mastery of parrying later for evil tank ability (and good use of lvl 39 hammer style)

BS 43 - This is where I'm in doubt... I will loose my highest lvl DD and melee chant, but are they worth it ¿ considering the rest of the spec

Please note that these are without calculating RR bonuses

flames, comments and general rambling would be very welcome :D

lvl 45.5 spec:

44 Bs + 6
37 Axe + 8
7 parry + 11

(this is my current spec)

lvl 50 intended spec:

44 Bs
46 Axe
17 parry

Q&A:

Q: Why only 44 Bs, aren't you missing the dmg add ?
A: If you play mostly solo, like I do, the dmg add becomes a feature less important than Weapon. The dmg difference is only 10-15 per hit, which is crap. Those points you spend from 44 to 46 Bs go to weapon, you'll notice how the dmg cap goes higher.

Q: Why not go for 43 Bs, and take weapon to 50 ?
A: Taking weapon to 50 means you get a very good style... but this style has a pre-requisite. Meaning you need to succesfully apply a style, then comes the lvl 50 one. In my experience as Axe user, first style is Havoc (positional based, front). Means you have to be in front of your target, and he needs to be facing you... we all know how skalds fight... maybe you'll pull this trick in 1 fight from 4, but no more. Also, only 43 Bs ? means you're stuck with a crappy 69 dmg DD, which has a big chance of getting resisted, being lower on the spec line.... Skalds need to inflict as much damage as they can before mezzing, so I need my DDs to land.

Q: Why parry ?
A: Against what some say, that we are not defensive and all... 17 parry + 9 or 11 makes you parry a LOT !
Atm I have 7 + 11 in parry, and I parry 2 hits out of 6.

BlueConEldingVakten out.

take bs to 43 ONLY if you are specced in axes and want lvl 50 style (which is nice btw). if you dont want lvl 50 axe style or you are using hammers/swords put your bs to 44.
parry wont help you that much, your primary targets will be casters/bards. but weaponskill will help you definitely, so take your weapon as high as possible. 39 is a bit low i think, make it ~45.
as for ras, take ip, purge, long wind 1, tireless 1 and as much mopain as you can, all the rest is crap (maybe couple of lvls of moparry)

i personally wouldnt go for 39 weapon/29 parry, skald is all offence. your defence against tank is mezz and speed.

add:
one more thing, for hammer user there is only one style - provoke. dont bother about all those reactive styles off parry/block, provoke all the way.

As everyone knows parry on 2h weapons is buggered so i wouldnt rely on parry too much :)

Eos, how do you have 1504 hp? what equipment you have? I have only 1300 on my skald (using epic armor though...)
