Bonedancer spec

Thought i'd take a break from Pryd/Alb and try out the new char. Gotta say i much prefer it to the Necro and Reaver already. Never had such trouble killing blues at level 4 before though, even with buffs of a passing healer :(. Anyway, to the the point, i've had a look at char builder and come up with this spec:

16 Darkness - wanted 15 for Bonemage
25 Suppression - wanted 24 for Bonefixer
45 Bone Army - wanted for Bone Deadeye

The extra 1 in dark and supp are just using up leftover points.

I have no idea whether i'm wasting points anywhere, e.g is 16 in darkness worth it or better spent in suppression. Any advice will be appreciated.

This would be mine:

5 dark for 30 sec snare
47 supp for final lifetap, ae snare and dmg absorb
26 bone army for blade turn and pet buffs

IMO life tap will be essential in rvr, as you and not your pets will be prime targets.

dark/supp in any proportion
body debuff from dark + insta lifetap from supp should be quite dangerous

90%+ of bonedancers will go 47 sup. for highest lifetab or at least 42 sup. for highest effective healer pet.

I don't know how I want to spec mine yet, but my leveling plan is darkness to 20 at least, and then maybe respec to full sup. until level 40 and then decide if I wanna go sup. like everybody else or try something new.

But dark/sup. combo seems nice due to the body debuff gained in darkness combined with body lifetab.
Unfortunally it seems as sup. line is only line where the pets behave somewhat sensible, so due to that alone - it might be the most viable spec.

I'd rather do something a bit different than the masses :). I'm definately gonna stick with the 45 in Bone Army just wanted to know whether it was worth sticking some points into dark or put the whole lot of the leftovers in Suppression.

Supression is always a valid line to spec at least something in, majorly due to the healing pets.
While they might not keep you 100% alive at their lower levels - they can still heal something and thus prolong the staying power, and if nothing else - heal your other pets.
Also a slightly specced lifetab can prove better then no lifetab at all.

Before I deleted my level 12 BD to remake another I still used the level 1spec lifetab when soloing mobs, sure it only did small damage, but hey, it all adds up :)

Looking forward to RvR, you really think enemies are gonna worry about blue cons and hacking them down? The archer pets range seems remarkably gimped - nearly standing on top of the target to hit it, the buffer pet tries to melee with its stick and you loose its buffs when it gets slaughtered. Remember all secondary pets will be grey at 50. Think of yourself as being solo rather than a pet based character.

Pretty much you have to either go full dark and be a semi runie, or full supp and drain the living daylights out of your victims, having range or melee pets will suck. Going for pure melle pets will result in tears.

Also, AFAIK respecs only come to those who are due them, so that rules out you respeccing at 20 and 40. Only the original lineup who have suffered major changes are due them. Be wary of this.

I'm hardly ever gonna be rvr'ing anyway :). As to changing my original one. I could go 45 bone army and 29 supp but it means i lose out on Bonemage from Dark, is the extra 4 levels in supp worth it?

Alll classes and characters get a single-line respec at levels 20 and 40, to be used before levelling to 21/41 respectively.

Just so you know :)

I'll go the 38/38 road. Supp for one and either dark or BA for the other. Depends really if you want to be a semi runie, or a semi shammie. But supp is the reccomended line for bds.
On a further note i was able to melee an orange con mob without pet or any dots, granted it was weak at crush dmg lol.

People forget that the BoneDancer AE DOT stacks with the shamans, and with the amount of shamans on excalibur atm there is a fair chance you'll be grouped with a shaman alot of the time.

Some rough numbers;

Shaman aedot = 120-150ish per tick depending on spec
BoneDancer aedot = 100-120ish per tick depending on spec

So combined thats 220x6 = 1320 damage over 24 seconds. Throw in some ae nukes, and thats carnage - not to mention all the caster interruptions it will cause.

Therefore I advocate high Bone army.

Edit: for RvR of course. I would prolly recommend the 38/38 for PvE.

Right it's out of the following specs now:

16 Dark
25 Suppression
45 Bone Army

6 Dark
29 Suppression
45 Bone Army

5 Dark
26 Suppression
47 Bone Army

6 Dark
24 Suppression
48 Bone Army

The second one drops the bonemage for the higher level lifetap in supp. The next one gives the best ae dot. The last one give shigher level summon ally spell.
