I am thinking of getting blueyonder broadband cable, I would just like to what people who have it think about it. Does it offer fast ping rates? How low can pings get with it?

Yes im on BY and its brill.. Gets a ping of about 25 - 30 on quake3 etc..

Its better than any one else.. But every now and a gane it goes down.. But not for long..

Cheap as well

I am on blueyonder too and must say it is generally excellent. Always seems to go down at key moments ( unlike my g/f ).
I generally ping about 30ish on a 10 person UT CTF game and 30-40 with roger wilco and a reporter bot running.

With a 1on1 DM game it can go as low as 14 (actual recorded average on ngstats).

It has improved my game no end and the cost if you have a telephone or tv package is only £25 pm.
I gotta feeling they are doing half proce connection atm £25 one off fee.

I'm on BY, have been since February, and they've been excellent. Only had one spell of downtime, and that was fixed before they said it would be. Installation was quick and easy, and they ping brilliantly.

I work for them, and I find the cable modems really good. Though I wouldn't hold my breath trying to call technical support...

But you should know how to fix it yourself anyway

The only time you ever need to call tech support is if you go down tbh. There's not much hard about setting a couple of things to let the 'net work off LAN, and plugging the RJ45 in your card.

Errrrrr, didn't you read what I said? That was direct output from an SB3100 on BY and an SB4100 on NTL.

NTL have higher caps, and as a result, we get faster downloads

Your cap is slightly higher, but I've never spoken to or seen any proof of an NTL modem out speeding a BY modem in a download. Always been slower. Because NTL suck.

lol? I get 80+ k/sec SUSTAINED (not burst)

Am yet to see a download speed close to that on BY, from what I gather it sits around 65k/sec

If that's what you get, then that's higher than my BY modem, which gets up to about 70k/sec sustained. Maybe when I get my official trialist status, I might get some free bandwidth from Telewest.

The limit on BY is lower than NTL but NTL have more problems in other areas. So I give Perplex 1 for his better dl speed but in all other areas NTL are not as good but would you care any way....I doubt it

Admittedly, NTL's ping seems to fluctuate a bit. It gets as high as 60ms on really busy nights. Weekday mornings I get 15ms pings tho
