Lo all

Been a while since I've asked for hardware help here :)

This is my machine specs:
AMD KT7A 1.2 GHz
256 pc 133 ram
30 GB maxtor (I think) HDD
Geforce 2 MX 400
OS: Win2k

Symtoms: PC runs perfectly in all applications except when I attempt to run any 3D applications such as games (cs, q3, q2, diablo 2) and even when I run the DirectX 8.1 Diagnostic tool to test direct 3d.

This is the exact blue screen I get:

I recently got cs to work in direct 3d and this is the result: (it looks as though I got some sorta corrupt version of ogc running)

I then went to PC world and got me a new GFX card, which I tried (Creative Geforce TI)... I got the exact same result as the images above, which tells me that its not my gfx card...

All the research I have done suggest its memory, I'm a bit sceptical..

Can anyone help before I waiste a shit load of cash buying a new pc when this could be something simple to fix.

thanx

*cough* OGC! *cough*

OMG that is so wallhacking

Ive never come across people who had that problem with drivers, they usually have some cheat installed

I'd recommend formatting and starting again. But then again, I'd never do that myself so... :)

did you fully remove the old gfx drivers before installing new ones? try reinstalling directx.

when you say you've reinstalled windows does that mean that you have formatted your drives or that you have chucked a cdrom in and installed w2k over itself?

CS isn't designed to run in D3D, so I wouldn't use that as a guide.

Do you get the same trippy effect in other games, or do they just BSOD?

I installed a new gfx card for testing purposes, to confirm that its not actually MY original gfx card thats the problem. The new gfx card gave the exact same results as my original card. I have since uninstalled the new gfx card and replaced it with my original card.

I have reinstalled the OS many times, trying different routes, like only reinstalling the OS without formatiing, ive tried with formatiing, ive tried with NTFS, with fat 32, with win98, 2k, xp ...

2k gives same results as XP. In win98 I am able to play games in full 3d but I get other problems. Last time I tried 98 I wasnt able to watch mpg files with out my pc restarting or blue screening but I could play games

this is a really fuxored situation

:(

cs blue screens or restarts pc
same with diable 2 and q2

q3 on the other hand, I am able to play "sometimes". I havnt figured out why I can sometimes play q3 and other times not. If I do by some miracle get q3 to work (usually just after a restart) then it will run for as long as I play, but if I exit the game and then try running it again (without restarting) then I get the BSOD.

This makes no sence, cos Im pretty sure that q3 is more graphically demanding than cs.. so why can I play q3 occationally but not cs at all?

*sigh*

What MS say

You have a double fault, according to your code. My money is on faulty RAM, like you first suggested.
