Yes, this is because of the huge attraction of being like your favourite band (Slipknot, for example).

No, this does not mean anyone who is depressed should be dismissed as 'faking it', or attempting coolness by being 'fucked up'.

Some people are genuinely depressed and need help. Some people are attention-seeking bastards who mimic their peers and heroes.

Don't know whether you misunderstood me or what, but I thought my point was pretty clear.

I was agreeing with Cosmos' original point, that people seem to act depressed for the hell of it. Part of which is influenced by the music they listen to. I did not attribute it solely to music.

That was my point, Meg. Along with that you shouldn't dismiss everyone who is depressed as the same. They're not all like that.

It is true. I remember when I was young, I wanted to be like my favourite musicians. So I would come in from work, put on my pantaloons and get down to Albert Hall to watch Beethoven, ehhh them were the days. I would dandy around for weeks after, letting ladies go first, bowing and duelling.

"shut that row off!" me dad would say, "whatever happened to Brahms? Why is all this modern music so rubbish?"

Teh Pistols had the same kinda sh33py following over 20 years ago. The kids weren't depressed but they were similar in the sense that they listened to shite music and acted like cunts because their favourite band did.

Depression is all too common today, many of the cases are genuine but a lot of the peeps are more than likely seeking some attention. I blame the parents for this. More and more parents dont get involved with their kids lives and get divorced before their child has reached puberty. This is guarenteed to cause problems.

In the end everyone is influenced by something.

Dismissing depression as something people do for attention isn't right, that's my point. I just made it in a rather roundabout way.

I wasn't blaming Slipknot solely, was just an example. Like you said leggy, parents are often a cause too, so are other such stuff.

Heh I will clarify. Manowar were/are an 80's heavy metal band from the US, pre-dating the likes of Metallica in their heyday. They are all body builders and perform on stage semi-naked to show of their oiled muscles.

They had a chant "Death to false metal", implying that their musical compatriots where really not 100% into the metal music and lifestyle.


Funnily enough I met them back in 1985 in Belfast. They asked me to take them to an Irish tourist shop so that they could buy some Guiness/leprechaun t-shirts for their wifes. I offered to take them to a couple of our historic bars, given that they where partial to some whisky and beer, only to find out that they were non-smoking non-drinking pufffs.

Basically their whole show was an act. Much like Slipknot today I expect.

Morale of the story is that most of the successfull bands like this REALLY are putting on an act so dont be fooled

I was a bit surprised, your music knowledge seems pretty far stretching.

A mini-mosher is a 11-14 ish old berk typically decked out in a Linkin Park hoody, jeans that hang round there bloody knees and skate shoes. They sit around outside off licences approaching strangers to buy them fags and hypocritically laughing at townies for being sheep.
