^0 only shows up in kill messages & chat, not in scoreboard or lamespy et al.

THE REAL ANSWER!

U guys don't have a clue!!!

it's ^8!!!

Go to console and type /name ^8BLACK

and the 'black' text will be in black!

^0 or ^8 will work as black. id only use the lower 3 bits of the character's byte for the colour (0 - 7) e.g. you can use ^A as the equivalent of ^1 ....yadda yadda...

^0 and ^8 will give you it in black on the console, but ingame it will not, to get it in game you need to use ^^0 or ^^8

Stranger, I've just been playing around and I can't find anywhere that needs ^^0

bind b "say ^0this ^2should be black"

Typed in at the console works as expected
Also placed in q3config.cfg
Message mode 1 and message mode 2 also seem to work fine (just one ^ needed).

Can you explain where you need to use the double caret?
Cheers

in a name (where I would have thought that most people want it, as black text in a message means that is had to see.....)
do

/name "^0The Stranger"

and the console recons your name is black, but when you say somthing, it will appear red (that might be because that was the colour my name was before hand), however, if you do

/name "^^0The Stranger"

you get ^The Stranger in black, but with the ^ in white (or whatever colour is set before hand)

Hope that clears things up

What I want to know is, who would want their name in black anyway? It just makes it impossible to read...

um, hmm, last night I used /name "^1The ^0Stranger" and it worked fine, maybe id software changed it so you could use just one ^, and I just didnt notice....

Further Research

Last night I was on a standard q3 server (baseq3) and after hcanging my cfg to use ^0 for black it did not work, so I conclude that OSP (and maybe other mods) ^0 or ^8 is black and ^^0 or ^^8 is black for baseq3

Or u could always use gamelaunch which allows u to configure names, scripts, video card settings, binds etc through a nice easy to use front end.

and how would that contened with the fact that osp uses a different system to baseq3?

Hey Stranger,

My post wasnt a direct reponse to yours but good question.

Not sure at the moment as I cant even get Glaunch to launch standard baseq3 correctly at the moment - without using black lettering lmao.

I will have a play around and see if I can get around it.

I've found that if I use ^8 in my cfg it doesn't work, but if I type it in manually in the console once connected it does.

Strange but true.
