Bizarre HL update problem

I just used the BW provided ftp download for the 1109-1110 upgrade for Half-Life, installed it, reset the pc, tried jumping into a server, hl crashed, reset pc, loaded into straight half life, activated cs, tried joining an online server to get a big bouncy "your half-life version is out of date" I thought f*ck me with a big wooden spoon.
So I checked the version in the bottom right hand corner, the net protocal was reading 46 - this versions correct one. I then looked at the HL version and it was showing 1105.

Now using sierraupdate to download whatever it thinks is the newest version as the HL update you can download, is saying I already have 1110 and wont allow me to reinstall it, just in case something corrupted.

anyone else had the same problem?

ok, sierra update also thinks i've got 1105 installed and is trying to download the 83 meg update to 1110.
Balls to that, I tried using the *have update* feature, but when trying to use that on my downloaded ( from BW ) update, it says its the wrong file size and therefore invalid.

This is really puzzling me now, apart from that, its quicker to download the full update from a non official mirror, then download it with sierra update.

i'm now downloading the full windows version of 1110.
the 30 minutes it will take is quicker than the 4 hours offered by sierra/hlupdate, and quicker than going from 1105 ( which most patch sites believe is non-existent - is it just me? ).
I know I had 1109, cuz I was playing on BW just the other night.
I'll let you all know if this doesnt work.

i downloaded the 1.4-1.5 update before, and now, i have to keep resetting my computer after i play a game, because it eats up all my memory, my computer goes shit slow, and i really do mean SLOW, and also i notice the game exits it itself, which pisses me off :/
