Main question is as follows really.

I was planning this spec,

Stealth 27
Celits Dual 25
Pierce 25
Bow 39
Path 48

Im now wondering about using a shield instead of Dual Wielding.

This would enable the following spec,

Stealth 21
Pierce 39
Bow 39
Path 48

Can you fire a proc off a shield if you dont shield spec?
Would 25 CD out weigh 39 pierce? I presume with high dex i would block alot as well as evade.

Any thoughts?

I've not tried shield with my ranger, but use one in pbaoe groups with my ns. Although it's a good thing to do if your trying to just hold aggro in pve, the amount you do block seems to be quiet low indeed. Personally, even if i didnt spec CD at all on my ranger or ns, I'd still dual weild. I don't know the percentages, only that I hit with my offhand wep an awful lot more than I block with my shield.

For what it's worth, my current ranger spec will not include any stealth. I know from my ns's see hidden RA that it doesnt matter how high you spec stealth, you still stick out like a sore thumb in rvr from quiet some distance to an assassin (trigger ranger whine ;)). This allows me to increase pierce and PF considerably and should I end up in melee, I'll have a lot more chance of winning/surviving. I do have a nearly level 50 ns though, so i'm not really looking for another character who can sneak around, so I plan to always group my ranger with my guild or other groups in rvr.
Also, I have reached my spec points in the major lines with my ns and am now pumping CD up. Although not at my final spec, just a few points extra in there and i've noticed a considerable increase in my chance to hit with offhand and as a result, a lot more damage over time. You wouldn't want to spec cd as a replacement or substitute for piercing, it is only really a supplement.

With a base block rate of 5% you won't be blocking much of anything even with capped dexterity. On the other hand with a base dual-wield rate of 25% even with no points in Celtic Dual you'll hit with both weapons one swing in four. You can't slam or protect; all you'd be doing by equipping a shield in RvR is gimping your melee damage output. Well, gimping it more.

would still suggest taking your stealth to 35 (to get it to 50 with rr and items, important to get stealth to 50 even with sH)

would take bow to 42.
weapon skill between 30-39
path 36
left overs into CD.

I use

stealth 33
bow 42
blade 39
path 36
cd 11 i think

And imo its a very fine specc...

hope it helps :)

(specc with what you feel is good though m8 based on what u want out of your ranger (dont specc CD high though always put left overs in CD)

36 stealth
15 cd
34 pierce
39 bow
40 path

An assasin doesn't need See Hidden to see u from distance if u have crap stealth. Camo gives archers the ability to solo/scout again even if its at 10min intervals. If your stealth sux u pass up this opportunity.

I have 38 Ranger @ Camlann, pvp spec was higher in cd and pierce and lower in stealth as i was 50/50 bow/melee.

Varience on bow dmg is aweful whatever your spec, 39+11 from SC is plenty imo.
