Bit of help with file distribution

Question:

I have 2 iso's of content created by me, each weighing in at around 500mb which I need to distribute to a dozen or so people.
I have only 300mb of webspace, so I cannot upload it all to there and leave it at that, and it is too time consuming to cut it into smaller pieces and upload then get everyone to dl, etc.
Post is an option, but i'd like to consider others.

So a file sharing program sounds like a good idea (kazaa, etc).
However, I am on limited upload cable, and do not want to distribute outside of my certain group (as it will eat up my limited bandwidth).
Can anyone suggest a way for me to do this? Such as a passworded group or the like (not sure if possible).

Cheers!
p.s. not warez.

I suppose something as simple as burning to cd and posting it to em is out of the question? :)

Or do we not resort to such neanderthal methods here?

Post-Already mentioned that, but I am going to be away for a bit, so leaving my computer on for the weekend would suit me.

And I can't be arsed to spend an hour swaping cds in my cd-r to be frank.

Cheers for linky.

The bittorrent relies on your friends leaving their PCs on too, once the first upload is complete, their upload is added to yours. FTP server is the simplest, but there are far too many to link to.

Nullsoft WASTE baby, its the only way to go!!

PGP encrypted private p2p network, about 20 people on our little network with their film/music collections shared.

Beats running FTP servers as it automatically updates IP's etc (so long you have at least one machine with static to connect to)

Obviously you mean public domain and freely available films and music? ;)

What do you mean their upload is added to yours?

Bittorrent uploads from all available complete sources. The phrase I used was a little misleading...think of it as multiple sources for the download.

Bit Torrent was made for exactly this purpose.

just take a look at that link and it tells you how it works. very useful program.

It doesn't even need to be a complete source. Most of the time when I use bit torrent I'm grabbing the file at 3 or 4k/s and I've got 10 people all grabbing that portion of the file from me. Not unusual to have 30k/s upload maxed out while only grabbing the file myself at 3 or 4k/s. heh.

i can only repeat what has been said, but an ftp server would be the most reliable, but in theory bittorrent could work the best. hmm. basically if you expect the people to all be downloading at once, then torrent can speed things up by having the people downloading download of each other...

I'm a selfish bastard so set my upload maximum to 10k while downloading legally distributable and public domain software. :D

If you shared a 512k connection with 3 other PC's I think you'd find it's more of it being necessary than me being a twat actually.
Thanks for your useful contribution to the thread though.

Capping your upload is not cool kids.
It does not help in the distribution of freely available information.

Better? :p

Edit: Ok, your post read like you capped your upload for no reason. I hope you will accept my sincerest apology's.
