BIOS update omg !

Time is very nearly here for a new cpu. So, Im about to update my BIOS for my Asus A7V333 motherboard. Ive got all the instructions from the Asus website, and feel oooh a good 35% comfortable with it ;)
Anyway, my question was , on the instructions it says "create a bootable system floppy disc by typing [FORMAT A:/S] from the DOS prompt. However I have Win XP and it doesnt seem to have a dos prompt. On my win98 pc i can type that instruction into the "Run" bit, it creates fine, but on XP it does nothing except flash the ms-dos thing for a split second, then nothing.
Ive looked on XP help, and created a DOS prompt floppy using the XP method, but it says quite clearly there are no other tools on the disc, it simply allows you to boot into dos. Will i need another boot disc, created once I am in dos ? Or if not, can I put aflash and the new bios on the same disc as the XP dos prompt ?
Thanks in advance !

when I flashed my bios I just created a systems disk and put aflash on it, then booted my computer with the disk in. The bios file was on a seperate disk.

Of course this was before I noticed that the asus motherboard had its own built in aflash and all I had to do was press a key when I powered the system on :)

**EDIT** to make the systems disk I right clicked on the A: drive in my computer.

prolly the easiest way is using ASUS Update off teh mobo support CD.
I've sucessfully flashed Bios on a7v333 and a7nx8 using this.

http://www.bootdisk.com/ will give you a good floppy image to use. Just install the Asus utility, then boot with the floppy in the drive, and follow the instructions you had already read off the Asus site.;)

You have everything you need already. The only function of the boot disc you need is the ability to boot to the prompt, you already have it.

The aflash utility and the Bios rom image are the only programs you need. You don't require any other program.

IF the aflash and rom image fit on the same disc you may put them on. You appear to know what you are doing, go with your last comments.

Extract it to c:\temp and then run the setup.exe file to install the program.

This program will put the latest BIOS on your system that is available, yes you can run it with either processor.

None of this floppy disc malarky, just install, press a couple of tabs, done.
Nice one young Embattle.
All I got to do now is fit the cpu ...

For XP its cmd, but (although Throd didn't need it) never ever ever flash the bios from a prompt box. I can't stress that enough.

Indeed, the instructions I read said it will not work from the dos prompt, but that you had to boot into dos first.
(Guess who's an expert all of a sudden lol ) :)

I think the A7v333 allows you to press alt+f2 on POST.. so just throw the bios image onto a disk and when prompted press Alt+F2 to flash the bios.

watch the bootup sequence and see if you get prompted for ALT+F2 at any stage.

Tip: make a system restore checkpoint before flashing the bios ;).
