Bike saddle/seat post problem?

I've noticed that the saddle on my mountain bike seems to want to lean backwards all the time:

Now seeing as how my road bike saddle remains almost exactly horizontal no matter how often I ride it, over years and years, this seems a bit odd to me. I've tightened the bolt up as far as it will reasonably take, and it still wants to tilt back. Its not completely uncomfortable, but I do have a tendency to want to slide forward every 1/2 mile or so.

Also, the saddle is a bit of a pain in the bum, its pretty uncomfortable. My road bike saddle has a thin layer of gel, although its still a racing saddle, but its much more comfortable.

Shit saddle? It came with the bike, a Specialised Rockhopper. Could it be a problem with the seat post? Can anyone recommend a good quality comfortable saddle that won't move?

Mines also a Rockhopper saddle, though not identical to yours. No problems of this sort on mine thankfully. It looks from the photos that your seat post is a little bent at the top, rather than there being a problem with the seat. Have you tried putting your road bikes saddle on this seat post to see how that sits?
I'll take a few shots of mine to compare once I get home later. The saddle that came with mine is very comfortable and I'd recommend it. It has a kind of ridge down the centre of it which supposedly makes it more comfortable. It's certainly more comfortable than my old one anyway!

Took a couple of snaps, if it's any use. Your seat post certainly looks a little 'odd' shaped

My saddle is the one that came with the bike and it's pretty comfortable. Check out www.wiggle.co.uk if your looking at getting a new one, they tend to have offers on the most popular products.

The seatpost is fine, its designed like that. It has a slot for the saddle clamp to slide around in, to adjust the pitch. I've moved it before, but its always slid backwards.

This time, I tightened it up to almost breaking point, and its not moved, so hooray!

hmm, the only thing I can come up with is that it's just not tight enough. I had a RH for ages with standard kit, and never had a problem with the saddle tilting, or the tilt mechanism not behaving as it should.
I abused the bike muchly hehe, and I'm not the lightest of blokes yet the saddle was rock solid throughout.
