That's about average size for a big croc up around the top end of Oz.
I'd say it's lucky it didn't become steaks.

They are keeping it alive till it is validated as the biggest croc captured alive. Then the thing is dead. If it could be moved away from a population centre then released that would be good but they can't let it go free where people will be at risk.
