Bg shade spec discussion

okay liked the bg sooo much with my ranger that i'm making a new shade specifically for the bg.

so due to everyone making shades i'd like to discuss bg shade speccing

my current template will be

19+5 stealth
21+5cs
10+5envenom
4+5cd
18+5blade

now the reason for my spec

Stealth
being a shade for my main i very much appreciate the need for stealth, so i wouldn't want less then the other stealthers in the bg, so 19+5 is my goal

Crit strike
i love p.a, i have to say its my fave shade skill, the instant huge damage makes it my first choice as an opener, since its normally 2x's as damaging as bs2 and an instant kill on sitting chars is always nice

envenom
i'd love more then this amount of envenom, but due to spec point restrictions i can't, however 10+5 envenom give me 21 damage dot, and the 61 sec snare, both these are very nice to have, as it allows kiting, and its just nice hearing someone yelping as u hit and run

celtic duel
the base 25% chance of swinging is high enough for me, but since i have spare points i'll put them here, and the now familier +5 making my chance to swing roughly 30% if i did my maths right

Blade
i have a pierce shade, so wanted to try the other weapon out, 18 weapon will do alot of damage and very little variance, it also gives me fireblade, a style i loved with my ranger, and does alot of damage.

this template takes autotraining stealth to 24 into the equation, but since i'm going to be going high melee i shouldn't have any problems soloing if i pull with my damage spell, and make sure to apply poisons.

any input or different specs would be appreciated, since i'd love to know how everyone else is going

From my experience i saw that i could never get my BS2 ( only had 10 cs.. ) off on other shades, that had the same amount of Stealth as i did.

Us shades got this DD as an extra, where mids got the ability to use two-handed weapons and albs got 2.5x their level to spec.
With my Shade i used that DD to make me win battles vs. many other Shades. You DD them to uncoverthem, so they won't get a PA/BS off and start wacking them with the blade style 'Fire Blade'.
You also don't need garrote, fire blade will do just fine.
Now if you drop cs to BS2 ( maybe, if you really want to, you can go for 12 cs to get the thigh cut move ) and raise your envenom you look alot like my spec.

Mine was:

19(+5) Stealth
18(+5) Blades
20(+5) Envenom
10(+5) Crit
6 (+4) Celtic Dual

With the 25th level DoT i only had to use my BS to kill a caster/scout, which i find pretty nice. Now when you fight other classes like tanks and shades you can outmelee them easily now with the nice DoT + High Blades. If it's a Zerker/Armsman/Paladin i'd recomment to Kite them as they ( if they get lucky and crit you a couple of times ) can kill you in just a few wacks. ( rat-mode )

I don't know if you want to know something about the SC part but i'd say go for capped str/con/dex.. capped thrust/body/crush/slash and get +5 to all atleast.

Now if you really like your Shade and you want to roll another one i advise you not to SC your armor with + pierce/blades as your next Shade might want to do pierce dmg instead of blades. Those Pestilent sickles are also great weapons, but you won't proc and have less stats on it when you compare it to a 100% qua sickle.

Hope it helped a bit,

Cheers,

Sebulaz.

Hmm.. had exactly the same template as Sebulaz (pierce, tho - not blades) when I had Finndougal in Thidranki and did quite well with BS II and the 20+5 envenom - BSII might not kill as fast as PA but it just brings demonic joy when your poison takes a good part of your victims hp's away. :D

Now what really interests me (on a sidenote) - Bladeshades.
Finn is 35 now and I was wondering if respeccing to blades was a good idea.
If I get my PA in and poison sticks, I can solo orange con mobs easily (31+7 pierce at the moment). Even easier if I can get a Diamondback or two in.

I like the idea of him wielding two sickles - weally, weally wubbing that character, though. I don't want to gimp and destroy him by respeccing into a weapon spec that will do crap damage because of a Luris less than bad strength.

So - you high level Bladeshades - does it work out or should I stick to pierce?

Only half-hijacking, Cher - cudos. ;)

<fwuffles Sicko>

Not that I'm a high level bladeshade or anything, but from what I've read the general consensus over on dem VN boardy things is if you have a buff bot Blades is muchos good. If not, pierce seems better.

Although, personally, buff bot or not, I'd still stick with pierce due to Diamondback and Guarded Rapiers remind me of pirate swords. And everyone likes pirate swords.

P.S... Rar!

I aer a Luwi piwate then!!! Arrrr!!

Buffbots disgust me... so I'll stick to pierce then.
*sighs and kisses the sickle-shade idea good bye*

... and having had a look at the blade and pierce styles I must also say that pierce suits a Nightshade better anyway - Diamondback etc.

Look out for the Keen in rust and black then, Avalonians. ;)

bah vinci your not a shade get outta my thread! i didn't ask for your uber albion help!

nice to see your still around anyhow.

i'd love the high envenom, but i am just way too accustomed to using p.a.

as for blades vs pierce. diamondbacl answers that question for me nicely, stun is our greatest weapon, since we can't out and out melee any class that we bump into (apart from maybe, mages)

that little 5sec stun seem an eternity for our opponents and its just damn nice.

just thought i'd sharea few shadey stuff concerning stun. u can cd another target then the one u p.a'd, so if u see a mage and another class near each other, after u have p.a'd the mage, quickly target the other guy and hit cd and u can stun em,

or if u have just duelled someone, and your last action was an evade, u can start your next combat with diamondback.

probably useless tidbits, but i love finding new stuff out

take a risk go 0 pierce/blades and wack up Envenom and CS, PA removes some health (variance will suck) poison will be uber and kill um. - Oh and get a m8 to pl u ;)

Gonna try this spec when I hit 50 on my main :)

in which case use a staff, a staff shade is a viable spec for bg's since without neededing to spec either cd or a weapon u can have high stealth envenom and cs

so if u autotrain stealth till 24 and are prepared for hours of agony till u get garotte at lvl 18 cs, then a good spec would be

20stealth
21cs
20envenom

stealth
yeah i know theres no point in more then 19+5 stealth, but people forget that with higher stealth u will move faster and also see other stealthers from a further range, and staff shades have spare points!

crit strike
well p.a is at 21 and theres no other styles till 25, so its best to get p.a and leave it really

envenom
theres no point in more then 20 envenom since the last dot is at 25 spec, so easily obtainable with +5 from items

since staff is automatically at 1/2 spec for your lvl its got less variance in it then using blades or pierce, as an end spec however staff shades are not that great, mainly since u don't need anymore then 50stealth or 50 envenom in an end spec, since having more then 50 points in either skill does nothing for u.

so staff shades seem worth it in bg, but the great thing is, once u leave the bg u can start to work your pierce/blades up in your template.

Hmmm... I was wondering - does a weapon DoT proc stack with the venom DoT?

Stealth speed is capped at your level, so 25 stealth at 24 is same as 24. Only time stealth over your level is useful is sneaking past orange-con or higher mobs.

everyone saying 19 stealth is gimped

18 + 5 is the best you need in bg

and it dont matter how you spec you will still get owned by lvl 22 shadowblades

S'not a shade, but my bg infil auto trained stealth to 24, and ended up with:
21+5 CS
20+5 Slash
19+5 Stealth
12+5 Env
8+5 DW

Can normally one shot casters with pa, tanks normally go down with bs2> thighcut and a couple of garottes :) Only class I struggle against is zerkers really, but then they're ewul anwyay :(
Felt good to kill Porkrind a few times earlier anyway (24 zerker + buffbot methinks, as he was running solo and dropped 6 buffs a time each death..)
