Just outta interest, what the general concensus on using the BFG in DM?

The reason I ask is that I personally see no problem with running amok with a BFG (I know it takes no skill but apart from anything alse its a good fucking larf) but a load of clan eggers called a kick vote and booted me last night just cus I used it once ... even tho most of the time they were getting owned with the lighter weps.

(stoopid thing is...i reconnected under a different name and they started using it in the next map)

Is it lame to use the BFG, or am I justified in feeling disgruntled about being booted for using a legit weapon ??

(most of the time I die from the splash of my own BFG anyway)

imho the bfg shouldnt have been in the game at all when it was made. Given that it is, if its on a map, use it, whatever others think. If the server providers choose to remove it or not put bfg maps in the cycle, fair enough, but if it's there, it's there to be used and no one should be told not to just cos someone else doesnt like it.
Personally, I dont have 'weapon up' or 'weapon down' keys and have a seperate key for each weapon. I chose not to bind a key to BFG, so if I pick it up after I kill someone with it, I cant use it anyway. I tend to kill anyone who gets the bfg, take the bfg and then due to my binds, I cant use it and therefore it doesnt 'do the rounds'. It's pointless to moan at someone or vote them off ....... just kill them, take it from them and dont use it, or simply fire it all into the air.
Lame gun imo, but i dont have a prob with others using it.

agreeed bfg should never have been in the game.if u can agree with ppl on the server then dont use it i say.
however if there are 2 or 3 ppl using it an' i'm getting creamed them god yeah i'll use it too...

Thats wot pissed me off about this incident......I get booted for using it once (and killing myself with the damn thing) yet the next time i join, the geezer who called the vote to kick me is running amok with a fucking bfg and quad cus he is loosing.....

If you dont want others to use it then you cant go on a killing spree with it as soon as you are having a hard time - thats called having double standards.

In my opinion if you want to use it...use it ... besides how cool is it when the plasma from the BFG roars past your head - TOP FX and lordy lordy fun!

I know what people mean about the bfg, but what I do is simply play on a server when I know there ain't a bfg on the map. If I fancy some TDM and the barrys servers are empty or being used by clans, I nip onto demon. I only do it however if the map is non bfg. Other than that I live Barrys Clan arena, which is much better anyway

Bfg should have remained a 1-2 shot clearance weapon like it was in quake 2. Not a shoulder side arm like it is in quake 3. It's all to easy just to time routes around the bfg, which imho sucks.
