In my opinion the only thing that makes it stand out is the music you can play when in vehicles. Other than that it's just BF. I'll sell you my copy for £10 if you want :)

If you liked 42 you'll enjoy it. The infantry combat has been tweaked and feels slightly more 'real' than it ever did in '42 and the choppers add an extra dimension to the game not present in 42.

My Dad was in 'nam and he says that all he did during the war was sit in a radio shack and smoke marijuana. Which, to me, sounds like way more fun than playing BF: Vietnam.

The best bf is still bf1942. Bf/v has nice graphic, sounds etc but it has no gameplay. Plus imo the ww2 subject is nicer than the vietnam.

Sniping how ever is waaaaaay better in Vietnam than BF1942 (for me anyway) as the rifles seem to hit where you aim, not 10 feet away.

Sniping is the worst, least fun thing put into any multiplayer game ever. But I agree it is better in Vietnam yet it doesn't make up for how crappy the tanks have become with such a low life expectency. Give me Aberdeen over infantry maps any day.

i only snipe if i'm a VC/NVA, it fits the character more, imo

one thing that pisses me off though, is the auto slope when your prone

Yeah and when you go from prone to crouch or standing it sends your crosshair off at some random angle. Other than silly little things like that I love the game, and sniping in it is TEH fun :D

another anoying thing, the people have agreater render distance than the greass, so if your trying to hide, it's a bit useless

trees make for better cover

actually this 3d radar is so noob. They must put it away if they want this game to survive :)

i find it useful, if your (trying :( ) to napalm a tree line, you can make sure that there's none of your mates there, and you can see where people are and stick together

And you think this actually happens every?

I use it to find out where certain players are in order TOO napalm them. 90% of the fun is napalming Cdr and hearing the swearing and abuse coming over the voice comms.

On the topic of sniping I disagree with what has been posted here. The Scout class in 1942 is perfect imo – you have a weapon capable of one-shot kills, and this weapon should not be easy to use. In BF:V using the SVD you can cap player after player with no real skill, whereas in 1942 you have to take into account the opponent player’s movement, the movement of your scope, and your avatars’ breathing.

The best way to ensure a kill is the same as rifle-shooting irl – wait until the crosshairs have dropped to the lowest point (mimicking the barrel drop caused by exhalation) while prone (kneeling or standing you may as well throw stones), and aim for the opponents neck – you will get a kill every single time.

As for scouts only being useful for spotting for artillery, well I grant you that all good scouts should be calling in a constant stream of targets for their team (sadly most public servers I have seen the scouts don’t even know that they have binocs). However the positive effects of a good scout on enemy movements cannot be overstated. You only need to drop one or two of the enemy at a particular point on the map (a flag or similar choke-point is the best target – they exist on all maps but I am not giving all my secrets away :) ) before long the enemy finishes your job by yelling that an enemy scout has been spotted (they wish). As soon as it becomes common knowledge that moving openly, stopping anywhere, manning gun-posts etc is a guaranteed way of acquiring cranial ventilation, then they all keep their heads down, allowing your teammates a much easier time of storming the enemy position.

There ya go anyhow, just thought I would let you know my thoughts :)

Oh, and BF:1942 > BF:V every day of the week.

BFV sniping was more fun because you could hide in the undergrowth from miles away, unlike BF1942 where everybody could see you for miles except for Gazla.

BFV - BF42 are both great games and have there own merits but because the games are very differently played you can't compare them directly, for example BF42 favoured big combat with planes boats tanks and men while BFV is more about small units and men charging over hills.
