Best weapon colour to use?

I have recently generated a highlander fighter Albion, excal.

I've never run a fighter before, (I currently have a Cleric, wiz)..

What is the max colour for a weapon you can use without wrecking it...
I.E. Is it OK to use a Sword that cons orange?
Will it get damaged really fast?

It's just I've noticed if I use a sword that cons Orange, I can beat monsters that con Yellow really easily, whcih my Cleric can't do.
I may even try an orange monster,as the yellows are really easy..

So you can imagine why I'm tempted to use Orange con weapons.

This explains it a bit more..

Basicaly from experiance I tend to stick to Orange as a maximum (just so I dont HAVE to go back to get a new weapon when I lvl quickly) and I only tend to ditch it when it turns Blue.

In the end it is a suck it and see type of situation.

I currently use the Flanged mace for my cleric as it is quicker and seems to do a goodly amount of damage. I tried the hammer but it was SOOOOO slow.

My Scout uses the gladus but only because I have the Ghostwalker drop. once that is Blue I will change to a quicker weapon.

A even more detailed explanation of damage calculation:

Basically if you have a 100% quality weapon it does not matter whether it is red or purple to you, as it will always get you your damage cap per level. However I find that purple stuff misses a lot. Best choice in terms of longevity and protecting your own wallet is indeed orange-con stuff, preferably with high quality and enchantment. This then lasts you a few levels.

OK, thanx for the info.
I'll stick with the orange weapons for my fighter then...

Regading the hammer and clerics.
Yeah, I recenty bought a hammer and it does run real slow..
I think I'll go back to my trusty flanged mace as well..:)

Best practice with weapons and armour seems to be buy it when it's orange and don't replace it until it's blue (or green if you can't afford to replace it before then). Orange con items therefore (obviously) last you longer. If your buying something that is orange con to you compared to yellow con, then the orange con one will have a higher dps/better AF.

Yellow is meant to be correct for your level - so blue and orange are OK.
Red con deteriates much more quickly.

QUA of equipment makes a lot of difference so unless you have decent magical drops buy player crafted every time (most crafters also give you a discount compared to merchants as well). If something is 80% QUA it is then 80% effective - player crafted stuff will be at least 90% qua and often higher.
BUY FROM YOUR CRAFTERS :)
Blatant plug .... Reinforced and scale armour upto early AF50's available from Matax on Hib/Pryd :)

Fast weapons are indeed good... I use a long lion fang, 2.4 speed and it's really nice. However you just can't beat a guarded rapier for looks (pats the nice Hendrick-brand crafted adamantium guarded rapier).
