Strangely enough, I'm replaying FFVII atm :)

It looks a little dated to start with but once you get back into it you stop noticing that anymore...

It's still one of the only games where I actually find myself caring about the ingame characters. Aeris dying and Red XIII finding out the truth about his father still have the same emotional pull 9 years after I first played the game...

I'm a Star Wars fan so I'm going to go with the games that changed my look upon rpgs :p

KOTOR 1 & 2 (Knights of the old republic for those who did not know).

Badlur's Gate 1 +Tales of the Sword Coast
Baldur's Gate 2 +Throne of Bhaal

those 2 were the best RPG's I played on the computer, simply cause the story is awesome and the characters have such a lovely story. It's also one of the best translated games I think (got both German versions and I never regreted buying in German)

Final Fantasy 5 - was pretty fun to play aswell, especially cause of the class swiches

Diablo 1+2 - well, Diablo is like the mother of all hack n' slay games and it's a real timehog once you get addicted to it.

Then for the non-computer RPG's there're only 2 major ones I played

for once there is the classic Dungeons & Dragons which shines with a rather simple and balanced mechanic which sometimes means a bit of hassle, but you have to think less of some stuff and got more time for the roleplaying =)

Then there is GURPS (generic universal role play system) which has a rather complicated ruleset, but this makes nearly every kind of character possible (like the staff wielding psycho mage with hacker abilities who gets frightened by the sight of dirt and likes to have pizza for breakfat). Yes, as you can see it's very customizable and it works for every kind of RPG, like modern, medieval, fantasy, stone-age, future etc. The downside ofc is, that combats can take ages and ressurecting is a rather difficult task. Also characters can die much easier from bad luck on rolls, which sometimes leads to some frustration.

All (Squaresoft) Square-Enix RPG's, there's just no company that made RPG's that were as good as those.
Shame that they don't seem to release any new RPG's for some reason but the RPGs that I liked the most were:

Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy series
Secret of Mana
Breath of fire
Illusion of Gaia
Front Mission

Never been a fan of those consoles but when I see all those great titles being released on the Playstation console I'd have to restrain myself from going into a buy frenzy and buy them all :p
Don't really like the RPG's being released these days though seeing as most companies focus on graphics and graphics alone which leaves you with a shit game and even worse gameplay, but hey atleast they can show their fancy graphics in the next game magazine!
