For around £180-200 a geforce 6800 non ultra or a radeon 800xl would do you fine.If you want to get a higher end version of each then get a 6800GT/800XT and pay around £50-75 more, but the first two cards i mentioned would be enough, the difference between a 128mb gfx card and 256mb card of the same model is around 3-5% performance so definetly not worth the cash.

Yes I'd go for an nVidia Geforce 6800 GT as well, very nice card. And if you're pc is well cooled, you can overclock it a little bit to match a 6800 ultra exactly, so don't buy the ultra ;)

Well for current DAoC, my FX5950 works (with AA2x turned on) 40FPS+ on this machine (full details):
mobo: Asus P4C800
CPU: Intel P4 2,4 @ 3,2 HT
RAM: 4x Corsair XMS 3200 CL2 256M (in dual channel)
GPU: Asus card with nVidia FX5900, 128MB

Don't know how about ATI cards, to be honest I really dislike them, but from nVidia everything up from 6600 should work very well for some time. I'd go for 6800GT too.
BUT, if you have only 512 MB RAM you won't increase your performance much, especially in very dynamic scenes (understand zergs) you'll be lagging like hell even in case your graph card won't be loaded at all.

what about

SAPPHIRE
RADEON X700
256MB AGP GRAPHICS CARD

this costs about 80£ seems to be one step back from the

x800 ones which is 250£??

even that GT6800 is around 200£ which is a little too much for me.

Well, you can check http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040921/index.html for comparing the cards... Although need to mention since Catacombs nVidia has optimised drivers for DAoC so 6600 card will be significantely more powerful then corresponding ATI x700. So if you head for pure DAoC use, I would strongly suggest nVidia 6600, for other games, somewhere wins nVidia, somewhere ATI... summarized it doesn't matter which one you choose.

i use radeon x800pro. fps is maxxed but due to my HDD and CPU are bit slow i get inc lagg. but when all is loaded it takes a huge zerg to take my fps down (about 170+ ppl and that was one the first ml marathon a month or so back)

saoon ill upgrade my cpu and HDD (want a 10k rp or higher one)
so should run like a charm.

GeForce 6600GT if you want a great card without spending a fortune, or 6800GT if you got a bit more to hand. As for the ATi card problems - DAoC is optimized for a GeForce, I overcooked my last 6600GT (does say overcooked - ran it too fast) and I am currently using a spare ATi 9550 - runs fine, but do get game locking completely for no apparent reason - and not just DAoC - HL2 - AAO all lock - My preference GeForce :)

or Get GF7800 GT (360 Eur at my favourite store) which has lower power consumption and one more CPU ammount of transistors in pocket (300M instead of 222M at GF6 series)... Though GF6600GT is still much cheaper (140 Eur)...
