Songs of Earth and Power by Greg Bear (Not really a fantasy series, but a big enough book that it should have been split into two or three parts.)
Same goes for Imajica by Clive Barker.
Lord of the Rings

I quite liked the 'Chronicles of Thomas Convenent' by Stephen R. Donaldson.

Oh, Michael Moorcock was pretty damn good too.

My fav fantasy book tho has to be 'Wolf in Shadow' by David Gemmell.

Recently it would have to be A Song of Fire and Ice by George R R Martin, can't wait for the next installment in a few months.
Riftwar Cycle (Magician is a great book) - Feist
All the Culture novels by Iain M Banks (and all his other sci-fi books too)
LoTR
The Warlord Chronicles - Bernard Cornwall

TheRiftwar Cycle and The Serpantwar Saga : Raymond e Feist , (in fact anything that Feist writes is good)

The Belgariad and The Elenium : David Eddings (same again, bloody good author).

The farseer trilogy : Robin Hobb (also the "liveship" books are worth a look at as well, and The Tawny Man books look like being another bloody good series)

hard question tbh, theres loads more that should be in this list.

The Pendragon Cycle by Stephen Lawhead is ok as well, if you like the old king arthur/merlin type stories.

In no particular order:

  • The first Shannara series by Terry Brooks
  • The first few Pratchett books involving the Watch
  • Feist's Riftwar saga

I would put in Feist's new one Covenant of Shadows but since there's only been one book so far it's not really a series....
