Basically 18months ago i used to weigh about 40 pounds more than i do now, recently i am goin on extensive diets about exercises and fat has been dropping off massively. At uni i was 16stone 5pounds at my peak, after a lfiestyle that was pretty disgusting, currently i am 13stone abouts or summin. Only place were i have fat that annoys me is on the breasts, no not man breasts or anything. Just the fat there doesnt seem to go much when compared to the belly etc.

Was wondering what exercsies/weights are best for focussing on this area to get the fat away, i aint want the muscles built up there so was a bit aprehensive about using the body bulding machines that build up the chest muscles.

well do the muscle build up exersises (free weights) but with low amount of weight & repeat em 100 times instead of just 10-15 times... that should work, & it also makes you very strong...

You can't reduce bodyfat in one area, it's not possible

It's down to cardio and a good diet, then you'll start losing bodyfat.

As Vlad says its pretty much impossible to burn fat from specific body parts. Some people are just unfortunate that they burn it unevenly from different parts. You could try what Giraf suggests, it might have some effect and at least it will tone the muscles underneath the fat and might increase the general bodily activity in that area so the body might start to burn more from there. But rememeber that muscle and fat dont really have any inherent relation - i.e. fat isnt turned into muscle, fat can fuel the process but the energy can be taken from any body fat, not neccesarily the fat right above those muscles. Otherwise just continoue to live healthy, long walks, long slow runs, cycling, swiming, and reasonably healthy food (basically stay off lots of meat and any junkfood and your fine), and sooner or later the body will start burning from that part as well.

run or swim

I prefer swimming since I see it more complete than running

Yup this is very much correct, and as Fana also said, it is a common myth that fat turns into muscle and the other way about. Sadly this is not the case.

In all honestly the best way is boring ;) eat loads of fruit and veg and excerise :)

The best excerise you can do for "all over toning" is swimming as it uses nearly every muscle in your body.

You won't lose weight through weight training. You can tone and/or build muscle (with the proper nutrition) through weight training, but you can't lose weight that way. Intense aerobic exercise is really the only sound way to do it, combined with having a serious look at what you eat.

As Vlad + Fana have said, you can't spot-reduce fat - you just have to go for the long haul and start a program of overall weight loss (which is ironically exactly what I'm looking at doing to lose some bodyfat and get my CV fitness back up + happening again before I get back on the weights again). Swimming, walking, exercise bikes, jogging, all are good.

Looking at your diet is vital if you're to have any hope of losing fat; there are a million books out there that cover it in extensive detail (short version: fats, sugars and low-quality carbs are bad, mm'kay?), so read around a bit and be aware that exercising by itself is nowhere near as efficient as exercise combined with an appropriate dietary change.

However, dietary change by itself - i.e. without exercising - does almost bugger all. I hate all these 'lose 3 stone' bullshit diets because they all seem to imply that you can easily lose weight without exercise, which is just pure bollocks and simply designed to fit in with the 'I want it, I want it now, and I don't want to have to work for it' attitude our culture has.

After a lot of looking around, I've decided to go for a good-quality exercise bike and use that fairly intensely to work off the pounds. 4x 30-40 minute sessions a week on that, combined with giving up beer (aaaaaaargghhh!) and some walking in the local park on days when I'm not using the bike, should produce noticeable results within 4-5 weeks.

This place...

...has a decent selection.

The thing to remember with weight-loss stuff is whatever you do has to be sustainable; there's no point crucifying yourself with The Weight Loss Program Of Ultimate Dh00m only to put it all back on again when you stop. Equally, there's no point trying to keep doing something you hate all the time - after all, most everyone who's trying to lose weight is doing so because they want to feel better, and making yourself permanently miserable in an attempt to feel better is, y'know, dumb. I freely admit to finding most forms of exercise deeply boring; I'm planning on working it fairly intensely to get the weight off, but then switching to a more relaxed - i.e. long-term bearable - program of aerobic stuff to maintain the lower bodyfat afterwards. Hell, I went for an exercise bike over a real one because it means I can at least watch a DVD or something to keep my brain alive while I exercise...:D...

Nope; your body will actually consume muscle fibre before fat if you just leave it to its own devices. Healthy eating combined with aerobic exercise is the only real way to lose that fat.

I'm sorry but that theory is mostly myth, the body will burn fat before starting on muscle and organs..seen any starving people who have wasted away still with a spare tyre?

David Blaine entirely lost body fat during his fast.

Another myth is the body going into starvation mode if you stop eating, the body doesn't have such a mode, what's it going to do? Turn off some functions?
The body is always in 'starvation mode', it uses the least possible amount at all times. Around 70 calories an hour at rest, which is 1 chocolate Hobnob per hour.

Best way I've found of getting fit was last summer.

Lost my job, started doing temp work. Got a job putting up marquees. Straight from 5 years desk jockey to lifting and carrying heavy objects 8-12 hours a day, 4-6 days a week. After dying for a week or two, I really got pretty fit.

Sadly I've had a much better paid job for the last few months, and though I could walk to work until the end of April, now I have to drive (cos 20 miles of motorway is tricky to walk), so fitness is taking a dive. I almost hoped this contract could have ended a month or so back so I could have done another summer of Marquees for my fitness.

Basic thing in the training is to keep it low impact and long period.

Powerwalking
Swimming
Jogg (use a pulse clock and dont go high % wise of youre max pulse)
Cycle

All of them work, but as peeps say you cant focus it to upperbody when it comes to removing fat.

What you could try to do when you do excersize is to make it more efficient. Example: Carry 1kg weights in each hand when you are taking a walk, will speed up the fatburning process and stuff like that. Train smarter not harder :)

Very helpful tips in this tread, two tumbs up!

Well do something that you can stay motivated for, go take up martial arts like judo, BJJ, wrestling, or boxing, muay thai, kyokoshin Karate etc. And get a 2day gym routine <shrug> just a suggestion.

Ah yes, this is something anyone that wants to lose fat should consider. Beer has tons of energy, unfortunately the body cannot use most of it and it turns to fat (as well as damaging your internal organs etc). I didnt say anything about it since i dont drink, so didnt think about it :)

Alcohol (in anything but very small ammounts) and healthy living just doesnt mix.

Basically you want to reduce your body fat percent, the best way to do this is low carb high protein diet and plenty of aerobic exercise. If you keep the carbs low (not atkins diet low but eat plenty of fish and red meats and avoid bread/pasta) and exercise once you have used your carb stocks your body will turn to your bodyfat as a means of making energy for your body. This is where you start to get more definition and those places where the fat is stored starts to deplete

I used to use this method a few weeks before holidays or things that required me to drop a bit of weight.

Most food products have carbohydrate amounts listed on them, if it doesn't don't east it, and avoid white bread and white paste like the plague, its like glue and packed full of carbs which if not burned will add to the fat % on your body.
