Best 56k Modem????

Im gonna buy meself a new 56k modem, and ditch my crappy rockwell modem. I heard that the best modem is the Pace voice, but I heard the company has gone bust?
Anyone got any good modems they suggest I should buy?
Also whats the ISP that gives u good pings on quake 2? Whats the best one?

Yeah I gotta say the Internal Pace modem kicks ass. Better than the external version, pings at about 15~20 lower

If you're going to buy a modem now and can't get your hands on the pace then go for a diamond. I think the good one is the pro version, but i'm not sure. Anyway its said to be excellent for games. As for ISP, I can't help ya. I'm an ISDNer now

yepp, pace 56 voice are very good. Pace did go bust bit were apparently bought out by 3com. You can get pace 56's from express computers for £45.83 (internal) and £57.58 (external) .
diamond 56e pro are good too but isdn is hmmmmmmmlovely

only get a pace internal modem if its an ISA version (make sure you've got a spare ISA slot on your motherboard too! ) PCI modems are not as good because they require a small amount of your CPU's time to do calculations and stuff so it can muck up your ping(thats the technical version

) I'm not saying it will but... better to be safe eh?

So if you get a pace56 voice, make sure its either an internal ISA or an external.

Been experimenting with my Pace External and found out that if you switch error control and compress data off then your ping will be much lower. Not sure if this works on BW but ask the admin, see what they say. May affect P/L though which ATM BW are trying to fix. oh btw, don't go and get a USR Voice/Fax modem, believe me u will not like it. Pace and Diamonds seem to rock the house. Also, a guy on the Freeze server told me to go to

not sure how good it is, haven't treid it, but worth a look never the less. My advice though is don't mess with the registries. Hope that helped (or confused)?
