Beeping

Hmm with the limited info I can give I doubt anyone will recognise the problem but just in case.

At a frequency of about once a day -- usually after the PC has been on for quite a while (tho it can be right after a reboot) but I mean the heat etc has built up.

I get a weird noise. Its usually a combo of what sounds like some HD accessing and the PC making 1 or 2 short beeping noises.

I have checked the fans / temperature using MBM and they seem fine. There seems to be a slight problem with the mobo reporting one of the fans -- when I used PC alert it used to claim the fan had stopped but when I actually looked at it, it was still whirring away.

I dont notice any performance drop when this happens, and if it wasnt for the fact that I know PC's dont beep at you for no reason id think nothing was wrong with it.

Machine is a 1.8Ghz Intel with Windows XP and MSI mobo.

Anyone got any ideas whats wrong ?

hmmm this scares me...

At around 11pm - 1am, once a night, i get 2 sort of Beep Noises,
one sounds like its a Fan shutting down then restarting up and another type of whinging beep.

Then after the beeps it goes all good again, i get no error messages or anythin....

i'll keep an eye out again tonight, no doubt it will do it again

Is it windows making the beeping noises or pc alert, if it's pc alert I wouldn't worry about it.

Funnily enough me too, it's not every night, but enough to make me remember it

Or the little gnomes that maintain your PC are revolting.

Perhaps appease them by buying a shiny new upgrade.

If its the mobo beeping.....those beeps have a code based on the number of beeps...eg gfx card probs, memmory, etc

it might say in your mobo manual...

also mIRC can make the mobo beep (it does with mine :/\ )

I am confused on this one anyway, because Most Beeps are on BIOS/POST Level, not in the Operating System Itself.

So is this the BIOS? Is it Hardware? Is it Software? Is it Microsoft?

Computer Hope has Beep Codes for BIOS makes, but i dont know where to look because everytime the problem happens, its over in a flash, so im none the Wiser, my BIOS is made by Award also.

They are normally at POST.
