the new website is dogshite. I tried to use it in beta and it was awful.

Why must everyone re-design their sites with tablets in mind as the primary user?

With windows 8 and cheap touch screen monitors available soon, the concept might not be that bad. But yeah the site is shit...but then it was shit before.

But they should then produce a tablet version and a desktop version. At least it was usable before. I've changed my homepage to link directly to the sports page now it's so bad.

I liked the version of the BBC homepage before they even changed it to the previous one, but i accepted the last version because i could at least change shit which suited me.

This one doesn't seem to offer the customisation at first glance, whats more its all IN YOUR FACE more than anything.

Really terrible.

ewww....me no likey. I was just getting used to the previous version, but TBH the one before that was fine. Looks like they're moving with the whole touchscreen/Win 7 thing. They must employ loads of tech ppl. The site is massive.

Biggest site in the UK isn't it? Bit of a lardy-dah about it a while ago because it's backed by the license-fee and thus has no business being the biggest site in the UK.

Why would you link to an actual page for your homepage. Speed dial or whatever Chrome calls it with a nice selection of my most visited sites, thanks.

It's fucking awful and I told them so when I tried the beta.

I can't fucking stand websites with stupid things that move around and animations that pop up no matter where you move your mouse. I go to a website like the BBC to find shit out, not to have things thrown at me. Right now, it looks as though someone shoved a load of graphics and hyperlinks in their mouth, and coughed them onto the screen.

Oh and I bet the primary reason for this redesign is because the wankers in the BBC's internet department all have spanky iPads. Next there'll be a fucking latte holder on the side of the screen.

Yeah, I'll be directly linking to the /news website, but it's a shame I had the old homepage customised to show me the stuff I wanted.

^This. Expect to see a lot more of this kind of thing. Like it or not, designing sites for touch is the coming trend; so far a lot of tablet-optimisation has been by hacking the mobile versions of sites, but that doesn't take advantage of tablets properly, so publishers will tablet-optimise desktop sites instead (the costs of doing desktop, tablet and mobile versions are prohibitive for most people right now, but that will change). It'll take a while to shake out because no-one's quite sure what Windows 8 will affect.

They don't listen to feedback, ever. So don't bother.

Had similar issues with the news redesign - they decided to remove the dropdown for area news if you're in an area. So, instead of being able to view London, then Surrey, then Sussex news, I have to view one, go back, view the next etc. Nightmare.

I don't think its any worse than what was there before. I think its ok. Nothing mindblowing, nothing horrendous.
