I have to come clean here, I've never had so much fun with this game, until tonight!

No worries about XP or dying, no worries about defending or making a successfull attack, just out-and-out carnage


It's even better that I have a lv21 infiltrator to play with. My first experiance of literally running in, and around, groups of hibs and mids without them having a clue I was there.

Hibs were better prey tonight. Mids just stare at us from their PK, or wait for a force of 20+ before coming down.

My inf is called Sma, a group of you Hibs will probably remember her name, because I was the one ganking your Lurikeen by the bridge. I can't help it, when I see Lurikeen, they just have to die.

I thought it was cute the way you had a Ranger circling the group, keeping an eye out for me. Pitty I can see him from 10meters away though


P.S. Apologies to the Nightshade Halo for revealing him when he was among Albs. When I saw the stealthed figure, I lashed out without checking the name... I'm all for fair play, and as you didn't gank me in Yggdra, I was going to leave you alone here, expcept this little incident

That was partly down to Mids having higher levels and bigger numbers. But in the Battlegrounds, levels are even(more or less) and there were pretty much the same numbers from each realm.

Anyway, the BG isn't about politics, it's about fun!

It was most amusing to besiege the Midgard Portal Keep. And to have groups of minstrels and their groups descend on any that would stray. I believe I have two notches again Halo. Sma, I remember you, and many others. Lochlyessa, what a lady, was it not for her and the other clerics and friars, we would have had many releases.

I avoid only one enemy there. Skalds. They are fighters, whereas I am a rogue. Their mesmerize is instant, ours takes time. From my observations. Range is everything. Fighters don't die as fast as they do in the frontiers, but fighters without ranged weapons do suffer. It appears that midgard thanes enjoy themselves greatly on the bridges.

It is sad though to see that there are still those that would send their summoned creatures through the walls of the keep. That is the only bad thing there. That there are so many that would "cheat?" in this way. I saw many, MANY underhill creatures and quite a few spirits.

Don't get too upset about the pet-spam through walls thing. Everyone does it, including albs, so it's good that someone is giving you a chance to work out how best to defend against it (assassin in and kill the caster in my opinion).

I have to agree about the Battlegrounds, they are great fun. Only problem I can forsee is that nobody will bother with REAL RvR and just settle for the mayhem in the BG.

I dont know if its the patch, or just lowbies fighting each other but battles actually seem to last a decent length of time. I actually have ample time to heal people during fights. Makes my rejuv Cleric feel wanted

Just wanted to give a big to all the Albs that completely owned Caledonia (30 - 34) Battleground last night, I havent had so much fun (or done so much rezzing!) on DAoC before then.

PS. Is there a 40 - 44 BG? Please dont say Emain

Not a viable alternative to RvR imho

I don't think the Battlegrounds will be that much of a big thing after a while.

With all things, we will get bored of them. When you really look at the idea, they aren't that exciting to be honest. It's a place to practice your skills, not a viable alternative to RvR.

I think everybody who was an alt in the BG's last night, or who has done 'real' RvR in the frontier will agree something is missing from the grounds. I don't get the same satisfaction from killing there as I do in say, Yggdra. (My Alt, only level 23 btw )

They are fun yes, they are great practice yes but an alternative to 'real' RvR? I don't think so in my humble opinion. You don't get the impression you are actually doing any good fro your realm, that's half the fun for me.

I would like to see more attempt to take a fort. The guards are easy and I doubt the doors are very strong. At the moment, I am pretty unhappy with the Hibernian numbers in the 20-24 BG's.

Not much from the Hib side and it's too much of a battle between Mid and Alb, not that I care too much though as it just means more people for me to kill.

btw/ Little tip, dancing on peoples bodies is funny and perfectly acceptable to me but it does make you the number 1 target for stealthers.

Sigh, so many questions, little time. But here we go:

1. You can only stay a limited time in BG's. As soon as you have enough realm points for realm rank R1L9 access will be denied. So it's just an appetizer thing.
2. No BG in the 40+ range, except the one place you did not want to hear about.
3. True, it seemed pretty long fights to me too. Too bad albs overcame us in the end, but I'd say at the time I left (1000CET) we Hibs had done pretty well and killed more Albs and Middies then Albs and Middies had killed us. Difficult to judge though.
Anyway it was great fun.

Look, I didn't say anything was wrong with pk camping. It's just so funny to see some alb whining about the same thing some mids whined about after the release. (Albs staying on pk hill, with us camping below). Still giggling when I read that sentence again. Hehe.

You are right that we are roughly equal on levels this time. But, I kind of got the feeling that you albs were more numerous than us, although I can't say I had the time to stop up and count... I get the same feeling in "normal" RvR too unfortunately. But I guess it isn't your fault if you are more people. It isn't too uneven numbers though, so it's still fun.

1. Doh! Ah well my Cleric only has 600RP so should be out there a while yet!
2. Thats a shame, the great thing about battlegrounds is that nobody has to hunt around for a fight. I can spend hours up in Emain/Odins and not meet anyone, especially in my level range (plus my Scout could use the practice!)
3. If your level 35 you would have been in a different Battleground, Albs in the 30 - 34 BG pretty much ran the show all night. Middies had a good go at the keep at one point but a good defence force kept em at bay and eventually forced em back to their PK.

Ah well I shall have to level my alts up to lvl20 to test them in RvR too. Given this game a new lease of life for me for sure!

Geffen, the BG is 30-35.
And I'm sorry to say, it wasn't your defenceforce that held us at bay. Have you tried meleeing a keep door in this patch?
Melee damage to doors has been halved I think, and still we got the first door allmost down...
Before that, the battle went both ways.
What happened after that I don't know, as I left early.

Just like to add some info here. Got some friends that play Albs, and to gauge the battle in the first Battleground, I asked them to give me a rough idea of what they had there vs what we (Midgard) had.

I think, at one point, Midgard had more with about 36 listed, while the Albs had 30 or so - of which, apparently (I think he was lying) only 3 were L24's.

Ya, riiiiight. I've got a L14 Runie, maybe I should get him up a few levels so I can go play there too.

I still think that both sides had around 50, since there would obviously be those that were porting back. Seems like a fair fight. Man... time to level that runie.

Must say, I find the Alb PK camping amusing. Don't really blame them, since we (Midgard) kinda deserve it.

If the doors had been prepatch the keep would have been ours

we got the door to about 15% then gave up, and retired to avoid too many guard pops. then people started leaving then the you hit what was left

Dont really understand what you mean, you had a good 30 peeps, plenty to take a keep. If it wasnt us keeping you at bay then you got defeated by the guards, nothing to boast about.

I have to admit though I didnt really know what was going on outside, i was just running round the battlements rezzing peeps. But there were plenty of dead middies lying about.

After that, well Albs pretty much camped the bridge between the Mid PK and the Fort. Ocassionally chasing Mids back up to the PK, getting ganked by some guards then running back.

Keep up the good work, but get Hib to bring some more Nightshades. I start feeling guilty of continually ganking Hib casters, with no one to stop me


I am of course practising before I hit the Mids. I see Shadowbanes as my arch-enemy, because of their cursed 2h Axe! One hit me last night, and it wasn't even a PA, just a normal Axe style which took me down to 5% health

The only way I can get these guys is to hit my PA before they see me, kinda difficult though :/

I can notice I have been in the BGs way too much today! I recognize so many of the names in the sigs... (I was the mad git always making the huge chat groups in Thidranki and Caledonia ... which I think are great, just that the limit sucks).
On Caledonia the middie go at the keep was great but us scouts kept you at bay sooo bad
I am SURE that mids outnumbered us 2:1 when they were attacking the keep...
I left when the hibs and mids started battling it out tho, in Caledonia...

Agree with you there SFX, too much time for me aswell with my inf, tho, it does take time to realise that you just suck as an inf <g> geez its a hard style to adapt to after cleric and scoutlife

I feel sorry for the Hibs though, as soon as their group of ~6 approaches the keep, Albs take them out within seconds.

Hibs, when you port, don't come out in small numbers, wait until at least 10-15 of you are together, and come down at once. Last night I saw a group of 10, 6 went to the bridge and the other 4 went back to the PK, why?

Halo is the only Hib who gets around, but after his actions last night, he can no longer expect a truce from me!

We were both stealthed and I was auto-following him around the mid-pk, constantly waving at him, even when he turned around to attack, I left my weapons and waved some more... but no, Halo proceeded to kill without honour, a death which will make him pay tribute to my blades

I would have fixed it for Halo and the other Hibs to camp the Mid PK with us, but apparently, you guys would rather die sooner then later!


I don't like killing Hibs myself, I'd rather you guys stayed around longer and enjoyed the Battlegrounds a little more, so if you see 'Sma' waving at you, don't attack me when I unstealth and I won't attack you


As for the Mids, nice attempt on taking the keep last night, but it was even better to see the Albs working together and pushing back the invasion.

I laugh at your suggestions of honour. I have never had it, nor do I see the need for it when dealing with you. I have never pretended to live by any code, I suggest you employ similar tactics when dealing against me. Otherwise this could become repatative.

Ah Thidanki or whatever it's called, what a place. Full of battles running back and forth all night. Playing a skald sure makes a difference to a hunter, firstly when i spot an inf it doesnt mean instand death and secondly i can actually melee. After spending almost 2 days in there the same names keep popping up every now and then, Marioo for one and Anuk. I tend to notice scouts more often as thats what i do with my hunter. Anyhow I think the battles are going to rage for a long time to come and please Hibbies come out to play
