Wikipedia said:
In the United Kingdom the term "North-South divide" is also used to refer to the divide between the wealthy South East of England and the less affluent industrial areas of Scotland, Wales and northern England. It is increasingly used as a term of resentment in the North, directed at politicians they consider to be perpetuating this divide (e.g. by investing heavily in developments in the South).

Amusingly, citizens as far south as Nottingham sometimes include themselves in the "underprivileged North" area, while residents of Newcastle and Northumberland regard the whole coutry from Middlesborough down as deserving of the "arrogant Southerners" label - making the supposedly worse-off North a bizarrely exclusive club. This apparent paranoia on the part of Northumbrian citizens was attacked by David Milliband, an MP from the area, who claimed that (if they really wanted to change the situation) they should drop their "victim mentality" and work to make the North better, instead of merely complaining about a perceived lack of government money to the region.

Well us Mancunians are in the North-West region although geographically speaking we are pretty close to the middle of the country.

So true, but what that david millband man said about the North, well Newcastle is an awesome place maybe he should have just said "if Sunderland wants to make itself a better place, copy off Newcastle or something" :p

u dont get a lot of chav's on quayside during day.. its later at night when their groups of 20 get refused entry into bars they tend to wander along there..

David Milliband btw.. is my MP, was flown in to here to replace David Clarke after he retired, coz its such a safe labour seat. not sure he knows about NE england tbh. scary thing is.. he's being groomed to be a future labour leader and therefore a possible PM.. eek.

reason why NE england is so fiercely NORTH AND DEAL WITH IT! is coz we prolly got more in common with the scots than anyone dahn sarf. i.e. shit on from a great height and used as cannon fodder everytime there's a fight to be had.

let us have our tyne-wear-teeside derby matches.. but dont complain when it goes mad afterwards, or try promote tolerance in schools before such games. its our way of letting off a bit steam.

was funny seeing the local news today. sunderland fans saying, well we weren't involved in the trouble at the bigg market.. nor would we have ever been, we were there for the football and not for the rivalry etc..

REALLY?!! THEN U AINT PROPER FANS!!! the result comes first, the actual quality of the game comes last

and is it really that much of a suprise that after a 1.30pm kick off, a newcastle win over sunderland.. that there's a bit of bother in the bigg market? LOL!! i bet the police never saw that one coming

rant rant rant and another thing rant rant
