About to be announced is the (kind of)sequel to Battlefield 1942. Battlefield 2 will be set during modern warfare times and according to Penny-Arcade this new game will feature many, many more features than its predecessors.

"...improved graphics, how about a commander mode where you can issue orders to teammates? What say you to maps that support over a hundred people, maps that expand or retract to provide an optimal environment?"

Over 100 people? Pretty bold estimate if that is what DICE will be claiming. I don't play PlanetSide anymore, is the lag still bad?

It's actually not that big of a leap. Battlefield and Vietnam now support 64 allready, doubling that(with the upgrades in engines and hardware) isn't that unbeliavable. Now if they talked about hundreds, then it would be a bit bold. Now it's just realistic.

Oh, by the way, Vietnam was evidently not a sequal but infact a "stand alone add on" :p Bake my noodle.

Planetside runs fine if your machine spec is up to it... memory hog though, with a Gig needed really. It's definitely NOT a game for dial-up though ;)

I'll keep an eye on BF2, see what it looks like.

EA squeezing the BF udder again so soon? Well at least they churn 'em out pretty fast compared to the long delays for certain other games.

I've been giving Planetside a whirl again and it runs fine. Not sure how EA will stop big games in BF2 turning into big lemmingfests as would generally happen in 64 player BF:1942 games. In Planetside at least you can go to another continent but if you're all stuck on the same map the teamwork is definitely gonna have to improve so one team can get an edge over the other. But not enough information to go on yet.

Well, it is quite bold considering that the terrain is also ment to be destructable, the models are meant to have ragdoll physics etc etc, add into that 100+ players - thats quite impressive.

Whether or not in can be pulled off is a different matter altogether :)

And I dont think EA ever claimed Vietnam was a sequal, infact, I do remember them saying that it definately wasnt :)

Yes, they have a contract with them to produce an undisclosed game. Modern Combat isn't that game :)
