I bet Steve McManaman is dying for Becks to go to Real Madrid. He'll have someone to talk to when neither get a game.

I reckon the deal with Becks going to Madrid is deffinately on. As long as we can get somebody like Ronaldinihio(sp ?) in return. It would be commercial suicide to lose Beckham and have nobody to replace him with shirt sales etc.

It kind of reminds me of last years Rio debacle. Both sidew denying it etc. Usually means something is afoot. Will he be missed. I think so. However 1 man does not make a team so will it make that much difference ?

so.. cudicini could play for england? or am i hearing things

Yep, he should be legible at the end of this season. The way it works is that after a player plays in the same league (if he's a foreigner) for over 5 seasons, he gains dual nationality. Players like Smicer at Liverpool who come from the Czech Republic - a country outside of the EU - need a work permit to play, but as he's been here 5 years now he'll be able to have dual nationality. If a player isn't capped at senior level for his country and has a dual nationality (i.e. Cudicini with Italian/England) he's legible for both. Also, in England a team can only field 3 non-EU Foreigners in a matchday squad. I believe there's no limit on it in Italy though, which is the only European league without a limit.

There was recently a debacle involving Dida of AC Milan about false passports, he had claimed his second nationality as Portugese (he's Brazilian) which meant he could play for AC Milan without needing a work permit but it was apparently a fake, a few other AC Milan players got caught too I believe.

You sure about that ? I thought the rules over foreign players were put to rest years ago.

Not entirely sure now you say that, but I'm pretty sure. There's no limit to how many non-EU players a club can have in their squad, I know that much.

I know the FA were trying some limit a few years ago, but I'm not sure how it is enforced.

I'll ask my Dad when he gets in seeing as he's a wealth of football knowledge, or I could go look it up in a rulebook.

I'll ask me Dad :>

BBC Sport interviewed becks dad, who has said that he doesnt reckon hes going to Madrid.

As much as we could spend the money on some decent players from selling him, he's still a quality player and united at heart so either way i'd still like to see him play for man utd, just without the long balls every 2 secs.

You do have to admit, he is the best crosser of the ball in the world. I still can't figure out if hes one of those players who runs at balls he won't get (Robbie Savage), or if its his white boots and blonde hair, but he does look fantastic on the pitch.

/edit : he might not be a good tackler, but his skill on the ball is superb
