I picked up a copy of PCZone at the weekend and there was a small article in there which more or less said that Barrysworld was on the brink of closure

Did I read this right. I havent seen this news anywhere else

Popular for its quality game servers and friendly community spirit, BarrysWorld has always been a hit with fans of the online multiplayer genre. But before you go off crying into your beer again I can give you some good news: BarrysWorld is back in business.

An announcement on the website states that the assets of the company have been bought from the liquidator by Electronics Boutique (UK). The service will apparently run pretty much as before, although various unknown systems are to be implemented to make certain that it pays its way. Unfortunately it is doubtful that any laid-off staff will be re-employed by EB.

I shall leave the final words to TedTheDog, one of the founders of BarrysWorld, who sums up the feeling surrounding the whole issue:

"Overall, the hobby venture Tony and I started out on all those years ago can continue. Better still, it's now in a position to pay its way and grow. There is a downside in that a group of friends who worked together full time will no longer work together but its unavoidable now, and something we’ll have to face.

I don’t know if it makes a difference, but I do not work for EB or BW currently. I’m writing this as I believe that EB’s purchase of the assets of the company to be a very positive step for BarrysWorld and online gaming as a whole. I will be speaking to them about “our possible future together” soon, but right now I’m writing as the co-founder of BarrysWorld pleased to see it carry on, rather than as an employee of Electronics Boutique.""
