Barrysworld Q&A Session - Take Two

The first topic is getting full of stuff about dial-up and paying for barrysworld, so i thought i'd open another topic for the other things people wanted to put their word in on.
I'd like to know what people think could improve barrysworld.. not the hardware and dial-up way but other stuff. What do we thing barrysworld can do with their new found income?

Personally i think they could improve the ftp site.. maybe even mirror for fileplanet.

Well i've said that they should offer ftp space to mods like CS, becoming one of the download sites.

Soz cro, i didn't mean to allege that you didn't run a great ftp already, i just thought i could be one area for improvement.

We do already, for the larger mods And for every mod where we run a server...

Quake 3 Fortress
Unreal Fortress (when it's done)
Quake 3 itself (check the Q3A download page
We try and get all the major mods onto the BarrysWorld FTP server either imemditelay after release, or where possible beforehand so people can have immediate access to it.

I definately agree with your point Pakman.
Fileplanets big and i can find what i'm looking for, whereas BW is big enough but i just can't find what i'z needing most of the time.

Well personally BW is always the first place i check for any large/new files i need. Fileplanet takes an age to get mirrored to the UK while BW normally has what i need straight away. Thing wil BW is that they do so much its sometimes easy to miss things.

I can easily find stuff on Fileplanet. The irritating thing for me is the way it's structured. You go through about 4 different pages before it actually lets you download something, and even then it decides arbitrarily what site to use: usually resulting in me downloading something from somewhere in California at 2k/sec.

I like BW, because it's an FTP which acts like an FTP

I like the bw ftp coz I can always prod someone into fxp'ing the big files over

yeah i always use the barrys ftp as the pings are usually sweet from it.

altough it would be nice if they could re do the web front end to make it look nicer, and easier to navigate
