Barrysworld/CS rennaissance?

I played last night on CS, and me and my mate played earlier today on CS.
Neither of us are particularly good, we try our best but usually find ourselves getting shot to peices. However, since the anti cheat software was put on, something wonderful has happened.

Its not the fact that our scores have doubled in less than 24 hours (I was 18-8 last night, normally its the other way round), its that we are enjoying a nearly ruined game again. There was no bitching, no accusations, no flaming and everyone played the game as it should be played.
Good humour was enjoyed by all and I left the server feeling 10 times better than when I went on.

I hope this is a sign of things to come now that admins all over the place seem to be clubbing together and getting the out of control cheat problem sorted out.
It may last forever, it may last a few weeks.
I will be making the most of it whatever.

Yes, I've been much happier playing cs lately since anti cheat mods have appeared. Its more relaxing to know that 95% of the cheaters are banned on joining. Makes everyone feel safer, some cheaters can and will still get round of it, but it stops the bulk of them and thats satisfying enough for me. I'm glad we can make yours and everyones gaming experience that bit more enjoyable by installing the anti cheat stuff.

As for stopping cheating as a whole, thats practically impossible, but we can and are stemming the endless tide of them, which is a huge huge improvement and is making many peoples games of cs more fun.

Now a bit of help from valve with some nifty anti cheat integration with regular updates, and we should eradicate even more.

Yeah its nice, you still get some poeple that endlessly moan and accuse and bitch. But remember kids if someone gets really abbusive call an admin, they will soon sort them out

CS is moving forward and hopefully Valves anti cheat whcih comes out soon will give a far more satisfying solution.

When exactly was Baal meant to have been cheating? I occasionally played with him on the nguk servers, never noticed anything odd myself, and there was a big community that never noticed anything :/

One good thing could come out of OGC though - anyone seen screenshots with player names across each player model? OGC comes with it's source code, so a few choice changes here and there and it'd make a nifty little "legal" proxy, a la Cheapo client for QWCL...

Itchy: yes, he is/was a great player, but as far as i know he did cheat at one point. Don';t ask me when, as i don't know. All i know is i've seen him once on the BW servers, and he was getting slack as several people recognised his name as a cheater, and he admitted he'd used a cheat at one point in the past(not sure when which is what worries me as parts of the nguk playing scene were so close :/).

Vash: You needn't download OGC to get its source. As far as i know, the majority of cheats are compiled from a small number of main sources, which are made by serious hackers(note to idiots, hackers aren't crackers, hackers are uber-geeks who can code like nobody else). I don't know any links for any of the sites where these hackers show off their code, but i do remember a thing about one guy quiting releasing his code as it was getting compiled up and passed off as other people's work(this pissed him off imensly since he'd released it under the GPL).

What do proxies actually do? I'v heard a bit about them, but not much

Yes hackers are complete geeks who are NOTHING like that shite film Hackers. They have almost zero life and crack "jokes" about comparing peoples intelligence to 386's.

Well, you connect HL to the proxy, which then connects to the server. The proxy can also pick up on variables on the server cfg, which was a good way of limiting it's features, this was done on the BW QuakeWorld Team Fortress servers and stopped people from exploiting one or two of the features.

I've used it in QWDM for stuff like "Quad spawned" (followed by "I have Quad" if you pick it up), and it was useful for TF things like "3 enemies seen at sniper deck" or "Enemy flag carrier seen in basement, need back-up".

A CS proxy could be used for decent inventory announcements, auto-reply to "Report in, team", being able to report the number of enemies at a location you point at (and are visible). You might even be able to use it for a bomb timer (similar to Quad/Pent timing I guess) so CTs know whether to bother defusing it or just run...

I thought it might be useful because not all of us have support for the built-in speech thingy (odd, because I know my card is full duplex, it ran fine with Roger Wilco) and typing is too slow. Just bind a key to "Enemy ($n) spotted at %p, need back-up" kind of thing or "Reporting in, armed with %w, %h".

%n = number of enemies
%p = location you're pointing at
%w = weapon
%h = health

You get the idea

Would this be considered an "unfair advantage" if not cheating?
