Just a little rant. I now apologise in advance to anyone who may read these forums and may work for Natwest or o2, but your companies SUCK! HARD!!!1

=====

About two and a half months ago I extended my overdraft to 1900 from 1800. This was all kosher, approved by the Natwest head office and the manager of my local student branch.

However, since then Natwest have proceeded to reset that limit to 1800 on no less than 3 occasions for no reason at all other than that there's been a 'glitch in the system', each time causing heartache to me whenever I check my account and find I have either a) been charged bucket loads for being 'over' my overdraft limit or b) faint at the charges added on whenever a Direct Debit bounces due to the resetting of the limit.

Today however it became more than farce, but rather piss taking stupidity to a whole new level of TWO grey-celled mongoloids.

Basically my mobile phone was deactivated last night whilst I slept. Why? Because a Direct Debit meant to go through to o2 from Natwest failed because about a week ago without my knowledge my limit was once AGAIN reset to 1800 for NO GOOD REASON.

So, armed with my redundant mobile and several letters written to me by Natwest saying my overdraft limit was infact 1900 I marched to the local branch.

"What Sir? You say you're limit is 1900? That's a mistake surely... my computer says it's 1800."

"What Sir? Letters? Who wrote those? Me? Are you sure?"

"Oh yes... that is my signature... oh, look here, my computer has your record up now... oh my... I seem to... I seem to remember vaguely... since the Aliens took me, my memory has been rather hazy... I'm sorry."

Well okay, the third sentence is a lie, but I mean WTF!? The woman was actually trying to pretend she had never met me before in her life...!!?!

Half an hour later and much shouting she finally calls someone to tell them they've made a mistake... thus making sure I am not charged about £100 for o2's missed Direct Debit and a few Switch purchases over the last week....

But does it end there? NO! o2, in their great and eternal wisdom have decided to do maintenance on their webby. So, there goes the cheap and easy "use the internet to get phone back on". Instead I have to phone them, and pay £1 a fucking minute to some dipsy shit of a call operator who after 5 minutes of trying to help me (£5...) realises he has to put me in touch with someone from FINANCE... sigh.

I'm actually vaguely pro-Natwest, but have a similar story to tell.

Because I have a graduate account, I was unable to get a loan I wanted on a low 7.9% APR. This APR was only available to regular "Advantage Gold" customers.

To counter this (as was suggested by Natwest at the time) I opened a second account purely to enable me to get the loan at that APR. No money was going into or from that account, it was just there purely for the loan agreement. Actually getting my repayments taken out of my other (active) account (into which my wages were paid) was a major ballache, but what made it worse was that despite my pointing out this fact several times, Natwest proceeded to charge the monthly Advantage Gold subscription cost to the inactive account, thus putting it overdrawn (since it had £0.00 in it).

I managed to get this charge waived completely in light of the fact the account was not used, and my inactive account was reset back to £0.00... or so I thought.

A couple of months later I checked the status of my active account online, and noticed that my inactive account was £56 in arrears (because of the charges/interest levied for me being overdrawn without authorisation). I marched into Natwest and managed to get the charges/interest taken off, and the account reset back to £0.00.

A month later, the same happened again.

And again.

And again.

No less than 8 times have I been into Natwest to get this recurring problem fixed. Why does it keep happening? Because although the clerks refund the charges/interest placed on my account, they forget to cancel the charge that is pending (account balances are evaluated at a set time during the month, and charges set to be deducted at a later date). Thus, even though the account was fixed temporarily - it would always get a charge levied later in the month... and then more charges/interest because of said charge, etc.

Repeat ad infinitum.

Computers eh?

The question I would be asking is "Why the fuck are you charging me to take my money for yourselves and then use it to invest and make more money?"

Personally Dolly I would right a letter charging them for the time and stress it has cost you to repeatedly sort out their fuckups. People have done this before and have been paid.

Unfortunately, bank staff now have virtually zero influence on the way your account is run. The reason Daz gets billed month after month after month for that charge is because that's what the account management software says should happen, and your bank manager (let alone the poor bastards who just work there) dont have the authority to override it. Similarly, the reason your overdraft limit keeps getting dropped is because the account management software says "this person is only entitled to £1800" - so despite your bank manager trying to raise it, he'll just keep getting overruled.

Consumer financial services is now a hideously complicated and over-managed industry, and I truly feel sorry for the poor bastards who have to get shouted at day in day out for recurring mistakes that they have absolutely no control over or ability to alter. For anyone that gets screwed by Lloyds TSB in that sort of way - sorry about that, I had a hand in making it happen.

Yes yes yes, but when something is written in speech marks it doesn't have to be spelled properly, it merely has to represent what was said; the person who said it might not know the difference between 'your' and 'you're'... and they shouldn't always sound exactly the same, depends on how people pronounce 'you're'; some say it more like 'yewer' (nothing to do with sheep dolly) than 'yaw'...

Outdid him ?

And theres no way (or its very unlikely) that you can tell the difference just via speech if someones saying youre or your.

(I do realise that by writing that I've sunk to your level but i had to have more than 2 words)

but still possible when you have keen sheepy ears like Dolly who, being who he is, can hear the difference between 'sheep' and 'ship' ;)
