This is where Chiropractors can come in handy.. if it's any help, I'm currently seeing a girl who is about 6 months into becoming a physiotherapist (it's a 5 year course) and she's currently treating back injuries for the NHS.
I know it's not any help but I just thought I'd mention that I'm dating a nurse who specialises in massaging and relaxing various aching parts of the body
I had a lumbar strain a few weeks back, it really made me think of my posture when sitting and when picking things up.
Try not to slouch when you're sitting, use cushions to help support your lower back if you've got a crappy chair like me. There are quite a few light exercises you can do like hyper extensions, ham/glute raises and pretty much every streching exercise will touch the back in some way. When you're picking something up off the floor bend your knees, look up and straighten your back, I treat even just picking up a pencil like an olympic lift these days.
I believe the main cure for back problems is time but if it lasts more than a week or two you should probably see a doc.
