Ok first let me expalin.. me is a pc noob, i only bought the damn thing originally for playing strategy/mmorpg games on and doing up my comics and printing. I know sod all about what exe. files r , wtf a wmv stands for ect.. i not gots a clue :D . But what i do know is, after 2 years of PC noobness, my PC is running like a amputee through quicksand.
I have spyware removers / files cleaners ect.. the odd bit of kit, but i need to completely Format my pc , resinstall a better Windows as XP really sucks and various other crap too, but heres the problem. Im on a 56k modem.. now while i dont care about losing the majority of crap on my PC , a friend whos a PC nerd is going to reinstall what i need and optimise it, i have a problem with losing Daoc files. The fact is... shuld i format my HD ill lose all the patch files that ive downloaded for Daoc , u can imagine how long this will take to download them all again on a 56k..

Is there anyway to actually make a backup of all the patches onto a disk or are they protected files.. pc is in major need of a clean and tbh if i cant make a backup of these daoc files i seriously doubt ill be coming back cos im not sitting through 1month <lol> of repatching.. any help apreciated, and explain in nooby language plz as im thick :)

Just backup the daoc directory, and on the new machine, install the client then replace the files.

Should work, anyway.

Should have been posted in technical forum maybe :)

But anyway.. you can either burn the DAoC directory on a DVD or move it to another drive if you got more then one.

After you reinstalled windows, you can copy the directory back to that partition and play again :)

if you had dvd writer (yes it would need to be dvd for the size,) just yoink the whole folder over and you be ok, the only thing is, i dont know which files are the actual patches, so thats why i say just use whole folder, hell ive had to copy my folder before now just so i could have 2 diff acc settings etc.

hope that helps.

Either a DVD drive or get a second HD - ebay you can get a <10Gb disk fo about £10. Copy the TOA folder to your second disk, format disk 1 and copy it back.

have format my hd few time and only thing i have safe from old toa is quickbar setups etc.
copy to disket? or somewhere your char named file, for example this is my healer char Islorhairs file Islorhair-177.ini
this is simply only you need copy, in this ini file is quickbar setup, how you have put your small windows around screen etc etc.

just look from toa? daoc? folder ini file what is yourchar-177 and copy to safe, when you have installed game back? just copy these back to daoc folder and voila.

Simply copying the folder back to the drive after formatting is not generally a good practice, the installation process creates registry entries and modifies certain other files to make DAOC run correctly. Simply copying the files back without installing may well work but it could cause problems in the future.

My suggestion is that, after formatting, you install from the CD and THEN replace the entire root folder. This will keep all your original settings and prevent you having to download large amounts of files.

Nah, Voidy it's not a problem, will run as normal.
DAOC doesn't have to be paranoid about crack copies running.

DAoC does not create any registry settings unlike many other games. You can copy your DAoC directory to a dvd, and then onto another pc and it will work fine (well some settings that depend on what hardware you have might change).

I continually reinstall all my daoc folders to check the patchers and I simply have a directory where I have my "clean" clients sitting there... never had any problems with them.
