Avoid ADSL

Avoid Clara ADSL

If your main net usage is online gaming then avoid ADSL like the Plague cos it sucks big style :( .
I use one of the supposed better isp`s Clara and BW Q2 server tonight it was pinging over 300 at times :upyours: 200 on Clara :upyours: .
Pings were 50 up to 300+ with loads of packet loss .
After using ISDN in the past ADSL is a big letdown so stick with your ISDN .

If you want to d/load large files its great mind but online gaming sucks .

If thats your idea of a good connection its not mine .
2 hops to Clara server with Clara ADSL and look at pings :( and this happens on a regular basis .
When i had Clara ISDN they were great but this is total pants and it cost £250 to convert from ISDN and then £50 a month .

Did any one say that?

All they're reffering to is your problems are not universal.

Bit of a generalisation, maybe. When I had problems with my LineOne account I never ran round screaming DI4L-UP IS TEH SHITZ0R!!11!

For the record, my Nildram ADSL has been behaving perfectly since it was installed over a month ago.

Claranet current have a problem with bandwith being used by news servers on their telehouse router causing latency problems.

This problem should be fixed/helped on 18feb when the news servers are moved to telehouse.

Well, i dont use DOS, i dont see the need of it, i wasn't brought up *using* Dos, so i only know commands such as Format/FDisk oute else i dont give a fuck about, like i dont give a fuck about your stupid little comments...

Super_gray:

If you go to START MENU --> RUN, then type COMMAND and hit 'enter', you get to a DOS prompt. From here you can do ...

ping comma.barrysworld.com

or

tracert comma.barrysworld.com

or

pathping comma.barrysworld.com

of course you can replace 'comma.barrysworld.com' with another ip depending on where you wish to test your connection to. It's worth remembering though, if you want to try it on a game server ip, drop the :27960 (for example) bit off the end as this is just the port and not relevant in this instance. Also, some ip's you may not be able to ping to.

If you wish to copy and paste this info, depending on what version of windows you are using, highlight the area and just right like the mouse, or in the case of winxp (maybe 2k, I dont recall), right click, select MARK, then select the area and right click. You can then paste or ctrl-v into whatever.

I didn't think we were trying to get TOO techincal here ....... but thanks anyway. Suffice to say, it allows a command line equivelant which accepts commands such as 'ping' which are the same commands that will work in dos.

I'm on zen internet, and a few months back my ping was a nice steady 250.

It happened cos loadsa peeps signed up for zen - bt said their liney bit could handle x users and in fact it failed miles before x was reached.

An upgrade to 155mbps by zen and bt fixed it, but it took weeks

ADSL

Im on Claranet and it has been borked all year :(
Nice to know that they are going to add a 155mbps pipe on the 14th of this month which means i have only had 4 months of terrible online gaming with them .
Used to think that Claranet were a first class isp but would never trust them again .

They really do suck ass!

I fully agree with all comments posted regarding Clara - they truly suck ass!

Not only has the last 4 months of service been crap - but the recent price reduction by BT has not been passed onto current ADSL Solo customers.

There are many threads regarding this topic over on:

Enjoy the read.
