With this RA it is supposed to increase your magic restance by the listed amount... does it show up when you click bonuses ? or is it just always on ^^

hehe in short the better your normal resistances are the less effect AOM will have. AOM only has 100% effectiveness if you have 0% standard resists.

AoM is a secondary resist.
Let's say you get nuked for 500 before any resists.
If you have 26% resists in your template, you'll be hit for 370.

If you have AoM3, which is 10%, it will take off 10% from the 370 damage you took, and you'll take 333 damage.

If you have 24% body and AoM3 and you get hit by a body nuke that would have done let's say 100 damage on you if you had 0% resists then it will do:
100 - 24 = 76 damage to you with no AoM and
100 - 24 = 76 - 7.6(10% AoM) = 68.4 damage with AoM3.

So it first uses your main resists + resist buffs and then from that number it removes the AoM %.
Atleast I am pretty sure it works like that.

Or in other words, looking from the point of view of the damage resisted:

let "d" be the amount the base damage
let "r" be the resistance of the character from items/buffs
let "a" be the AOM resist.

Damage resisted = ( d x r ) + ( d - ( d x r ) ) x a

which factors down to: d x (a + r - a.r)

From this we can see that you loose an effective factor of a.r over the ideal stacking bonus, r + a.

eg. with 100 point damage spell, with 25% resistence and 10% AOM:

Damage resisted = 100 x ( 0.10 + 0.25 - ( 0.10 x 0.25 ) )
==> 100 x ( 0.35 - 0.025 )
==> 32.5 points resisted

which of course is less that the basic 25% + 10% (which would be 35) that you might ordinarily expect.

</mathkiddy> gifv gold star :p

[DISCLAIMER: I havn't actually got a clue how AOM stacks - not having access to the DAOC source code, but this is a possible algorithm given what has been said above]

LOL Crook love the maths

Not sure about the actual stats of AoM but from what has been said I must agree with the maths and it does make a bit more sense as to why I still get harder than I expect by magic

/note to self (get rid of AoM)

Well i made a gimp enought cheap temp on camlann for my minstrel.

And the temp was based around getting the magic resists to like 15% .. then getting AoM 3 for capped resists >.<
