Avatars won't leave me alone

I can turn avatars off fine when info is set to display on the left, but changing that to display at top makes the avatars re-appear.
Can someone else verify this for me aswell please ?

I have just changed to top display (I have avatars turned off already), and they haven't re-appeared.

However, the Petz all suddenly appear at the top of the posts where you would expect an avatar to be.

Ahh I thought they didn't look much like avatars. Never even clicked the petz link tbh
